To find it strange to hang a fake flower wreath on your front door at the height of summer

I have seen quite a few of these recently, in houses with actual front gardens.
It's the height of the flowering season, real flowers are everywhere, why on earth does a door need a fake flower wreath in summer?

I hate fake winter wreaths at Christmas but at least I can understand it more then, with bare gardens and trees and with it being more traditional to have a wreath at that time of year. Sometimes I make my own out of real foliage etc then or sometimes I don't bother with one.

A couple of people near me have had a fake flower one up since before Easter, surely they get dirty, dusty and faded, as well as looking generally crap.
It's a very strange thing.

Edited to say I accidentally appeared to have added a poll, did not intend to do that.

It's personal choice. I have one all year round but it's tasteful. I put small lights on it at Christmas.

Denimrules · 23/06/2025 21:59

I don't like wreaths anyway, but if I had a Christmas one it would be real. Any other time of year it would be fake, as were my wedding flowers. I have allergies/hayfever

Overtheatlantic · 23/06/2025 22:03

If I put a real one on the door it would get pinched by the neighbourhood darlings. A fake one it is.

thatsawhopperthatlemon · 23/06/2025 22:03

I agree with you OP.

A wreath means one of three things to me: Remembrance Sunday, Christmas decoration, floral tribute at a funeral.

Teajenny7 · 23/06/2025 22:07

I am with you. I can't stand fake flowers, plants or grass.

It is up to the individual, their choice, their taste.

Is it a summery fake flower one?

Do you have a summer one with fake flowers? I'm just curious why anyone would want to put one on their door in the summer, as we are surrounded by real flowers at this time of year, so why the need for the additional fake floral one on the door too?

One of my neighbours does this. They have a lovely house with nice plants out front, but always have a huge seasonal artificial wreath on their door - autumnal, Halloween, Christmas, white wintery one, Easter etc. currently a summer flowers one,

They’re tacky in my opinion, but they obviously get pleasure from them, so each to their own,

I agree it's up to the individual, but this summer fake wreath thing seems to be a new thing and I was curious why and where it's come from. Is it an Instagram type of thing?
From looking who has them it seems to be the same people that wrapped their whole front door in a gigantic bow at Christmastime, to make it look like an enormous present presumably. That's another new bizarre type of decor.

I can’t grow flowers on my door, even in the summer 🤷‍♀️
So I’ve currently got my flower wreath up and at the stroke of pumpkin at 12:01 on 1st September my autumn wreath will go up, then a few days before Halloween my delightfully naff tinselly witchy wreath will be taking her time in the spotlight and then my holly wreath with fairy lights will be out to herald the coming of winter. I also have an Easter egg wreath.
Love a wreath. It’s my front door, I can wreath it if I like

cadburyegg · 23/06/2025 22:17

I have one because it’s pretty. I am not sure why I shouldn’t have one because there are flowers in gardens. It doesn’t get dirty or faded either.

Aweecupofteaandabiscuit · 23/06/2025 22:19

I’ve never partaken in door bows and never would ❌

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 23/06/2025 22:20

Whether or not you like fake flower wreaths, I don't see what the fact that there are real flowers around in summer has to do with anything. They don't make your door look nice. If you had a holly tree in your garden, would that stop you putting a Christmas wreath up?

BankHolidayMonday · 23/06/2025 22:21

Because it lasts forever, needs no maintenance?

I don't get the point of having any wreath, but surely it's easier and cheaper to have a fake flower one and be done with it.

It's just a fake green heart, that looks like foliage on a small chain. I got it from a garden centre. I just like my front door being adorned.

Foreverm0re · 23/06/2025 22:22

An annoying American thing we seem to have adopted over here.

Buxusmortus · 23/06/2025 22:22

I'm interested to know from the ones that have different seasonal ones, when did you start doing this and why? Because I've only seen anything other than a Christmas one in the past few years.
Do you feel that your front door doesn't look good without one?
I think a clean, maintained front door looks good on its own.

I have a similar annual routine. It's never occurred to me I might be upsetting someone

Mumdiva99 · 23/06/2025 22:23

I have some roses and lavender in my garden. But I like fake wreathes too. I would still have my Easter one out but it had a bunny on and I didn't think I could get away with it all summer. So I've hung it in my hall instead.
Why not have them? They hurt no one.

You do, I don't. I'm moving in the next week and will have a wreath free door, or maybe I will put it on the summerhouse door.

TinyTempest · 23/06/2025 22:25

Good Lord, it's just a door ornament that some people like.

Why are you even thinking about it? 🤷‍♂️

You'd shit kittens if you saw my neighbour. She has 3 fake shrubs in her front garden.

Reachforthestars00 · 23/06/2025 22:25

I love my door wreaths and change them with the seasons. They brighten up my world one fake flower at a time.

ShoutOutLucile · 23/06/2025 22:26

I’ve got one, I don’t particularly like it but I can tell you why I’ve got it.

My front door is very corporate looking. It’s both taller and wider than an average front door. It’s that terrible dark grey colour and it’s part of a massive glass frontage, all one piece, so I can’t get a new door. I want my house to look like a home and not the office of an advertising agency. So I’ve got a wreath to make it look more like a house and to disguise one of the stupid peep hole windows.

The door is a total sun trap, it faces full south. If I had a fresh flower wreath if have to replace it every eight minutes. Even if it lasted two days I wouldn’t have a real one because I haven’t got time to make flower wreaths three times a week.

Over the last year or so. My flowery one goes up in spring and I put Easter bunnies and eggs on it over Easter. It stays up until autumn then my autumnal one goes up with Halloween things in October. Then a Christmas one. I like changing things up, makes it more interesting and fun to look at for me. I’m the one going in and out of it every day. It’s my front door and I can decorate it if I want to 🙂
