i think they are most probably a bunch of muppets?
oh lets keep chicken george, wont that be simply down to earth and we'll use recycled shit as much as we can so that we are giving back to the earth...

Hassled · 23/05/2008 21:40

Yes. My DH isn't called George.

loudmouth · 23/05/2008 21:41

S1ur · 23/05/2008 21:41

Does that mean I can be Margo next door and come over all frowny and middle class when they start pining for pigs?

I DO get terribly silly when drunk. My hair is decidedly flatter though.

loudmouth · 23/05/2008 21:43

buy your eggs from the supermarket and save yourself the hassle

JERRRRYYYYYYYYY

I love the Good Life. And I love my chickens!

tortoiseSHELL · 23/05/2008 21:48

and I would LOVE a pig, but alas our garden is TOO small.

Whooosh · 23/05/2008 21:50

you are just jealous!

Ripeberry · 23/05/2008 21:50

You're just jealous

Teuch · 23/05/2008 21:52

You can have mine - this shit ain't 'the good life'!!

Jesus wept! The smell of 'em...

Teuch · 23/05/2008 21:52

And, one of you has my missing duck too!

loudmouth · 23/05/2008 21:53

why would you want a pig FFS?????????????

OP posts:
Ripeberry · 23/05/2008 21:53

They keep you fit as well!
Especially when they escape from their run and get chased by the cats and the owner ends up in the brambles.
Nasty big scratch on my back..Ouch! but the kids love rounding them up, using the cats as sheepdogs

loudmouth · 23/05/2008 21:53

you people are crazy

Nappyzoneneedsanewname · 23/05/2008 21:54

I want soem but worry about the shit smell and the neighbours wouldnt be to impressed as we dont live on a small farm or anything just a regular street ! I wouldt want a pig

Hassled · 23/05/2008 21:56

The point of having chickens is that when they escape and cross the road you can legitimately ask "Why did the chicken cross the road?"

Teuch · 23/05/2008 21:57

As I said...

the smell...

hence the separate thread

Ripeberry · 23/05/2008 21:57

A lady from our school, has to date 24 chickens (rescued from battery farm), 3 pot bellied pigs (that love being tickled), 2 pigmy goats and she also has several rats that she takes pot shots at with her shotgun.
All great fun!

lucyellensmum · 23/05/2008 22:07

yanbu - i would totally buy into the whole goodlife thing, i am growing veggies this year, DP wants chickens (over my dead body i think is what i said, smelly bastard things) but we wont be getting them. Now a pig on the other hand!!

Actually, ripeberry, im quite envious, pigs and goats??? heaven! I had this pipedream that i would breed alpacas (until i did the homework and realised i would need to remortgage the remortgage in order to get one!).

tortoiseSHELL · 23/05/2008 22:10

Our chickens do freak people out when they are walking down our urban street, and hear the chickens announcing an egg - it's the only time they are LOUD and it's hilarious to see people looking round bewildered!

They don't smell at all!

Pavlovthecat · 23/05/2008 22:10

We are going to get chickens. We live in a terraced house, converted first floor flat, but we have a yard. Its big enough for chickens.

We are going to do it to piss the neighbours off. Thats it

pointydog · 23/05/2008 22:25

yeah, those chicken keepers think they're it

LissyD · 23/05/2008 22:27

THE DREAM!!!

I actually know the exact house I want to live in with my chickens and hordes of children and interesting and arty lodgers. Problem is, my mates parents are already living there. They are the guardian readers dream though. I have such a crush on them

zazen · 23/05/2008 22:33

Avian Flu anyone?

loudmouth · 23/05/2008 22:41

IAMNOTBEINGUNREASONABLE
what do you chicken keepers drive?

OP posts:
lucyellensmum · 23/05/2008 22:49

actually zazen that is a really good point, when, and not if, avian flu becomes a significant threat in this country, birds like chickens will have to be kept undercover at all times. How will this affect the domestic chicken owner i wonder?? Im not entirely sure how this will stand, but im sure i heard this on the news once, when they were all panicking about it.
