To wonder where my wheelie bin is!

I’m a bit baffled. It was there at 10.30am but gone 2 hours later. Just the green wheelie - black and food still there.

bin collection day is tomorrow and it was full. Had a scout around and not in anyone else’s front garden.

any ideas or am I the victim of wheelie bin theft by someone desperate for my recycling?

So its not blown away in the wind?? 🤔🤔

Bruisername · 23/06/2025 13:31

It’s not been that windy and it was between the 2 other bins which are still perfectly in position

DH suggested school kids or drunks but I don’t think 10.30-12.30 in the morning is prime time for either

Does it have paper for recycling in it?
If so, maybe someone "borrowed" it to sift through it looking for personal information to steal?
Someone "borrowed" it to put some of their recycling in ready for tomorrow and then it will miraculously reappear?
Are you very famous and it's the damned paparazzi looking for gossip?

Bruisername · 23/06/2025 13:39

If they’ve taken it for identity theft they will be very disappointed!!

and not famous so the paps won’t want to know what shower gel I use

its made me feel quite unsettled!!!

@Bruisername just asked about the wind as it's really blowy here and wheelie bins due tend to get airborne easily. Hope the mystery is solved soon x

Bruisername · 23/06/2025 13:55

Thanks! All suggestions welcome

maybe pp is right and it’s been borrowed and I’ll get it back after bin day!!!

fetchacloth · 24/06/2025 18:17

Maybe it will reappear after bin day but if it doesn't, ask the neighbours.
It's a pain though, it's happened to me before and I was forced to pay for a replacement bin 😒

AdaColeman · 24/06/2025 18:26

It may well turn up again, so don't report it as lost/stolen immediately. The Council here advise to wait a month before reporting and ordering a new bin. This happened to my bin a while ago, and surprisingly, it was returned eventually.

Bruisername · 24/06/2025 18:28

Ha! I reported online to police (just to register it in case there’s a pattern etc). They immediately closed and said I should investigate myself by finding cctv and then they might help. Thank god it’s only a wheelie bin!

bin day today and I went for a walk to see all the bins put out but still no sign

have to buy my own so council couldn’t care less

shellyleppard · 24/06/2025 18:35

@Bruisername that's soooo annoying!!! Our council takes non standard bins, hopefully yours will too x quite a few extra ones on our council estate that aren't "official". They get emptied. People across the road currently have four large bins.....and. Four beer kegs 🤣🤣🤣

Bruisername · 24/06/2025 18:36

My council makes you buy your own bin and are very restrictive on which ones!!

shellyleppard · 24/06/2025 18:47

@Bruisername sigh jobsworth 😮

fetchacloth · 24/06/2025 18:51

Bruisername · 24/06/2025 18:36

My council makes you buy your own bin and are very restrictive on which ones!!

Same here and they have to be a specific size and corresponding colour otherwise they won't empty them.🙄

flatonmyback · 24/06/2025 18:58

After having mine nicked when I got a replacement I painted my address in gloss paint on each side, bottom and inside!

Bruisername · 24/06/2025 19:00

That’s a very good idea!!!

Have been a victim of the Stolen Grey Wheely Bin lark over the last two years. Including awol bin and neighbours using my bin to put their stinking bags of rubbish in.

My Wheely bin hsd been taken a number of times. Then mysteriosly reappeared about a week later. Put a stop to the above by chaining and padlocking the bin to a drainppipe.

What is the world coming to?

The neighbours in. mention do not live in their flat but have sublet it on s revolving door basis, to at least ten illegals who work in the very dodgy takeaeay/cafe. they run locally..

It is like an Ai BnB. They even throw in a free car for theit guests to use

l definely know who is it by the businees name on the cardboard plates and cups they use in their takeaeay/ cafe.

But l have not seem them place the rubbish on the bin. T

Got on to the local Council and they told me that by using mine and other neighbours bins. They said these neighbours do not have to employ a commercial rubbish collector from their takeaway /cafe and pay a charge.

Apparently, ths type of scam is very common place with low life.

l now keep my Grey Wheely bin in a nearby friend's locked outhouse.

Wheely bins are quite expensive and l bet there is a nice little trade in pre loved, knocked off bins.

This post has been very wordy.

Hope it helps.

Unfortunately. Such is life

Bruisername · 25/06/2025 21:23

Yes. Mine was a rather nice bin too. Well looked after!! I hope it ends up in a good home

We have a street WhatsApp and someone asked if they’d found an extra bin. They heard the bin men coming, checked on their ring camera they’d been and wrnt out ten minutes later it had vanished. Someone else other end says theirs was gone too. I joked that no one would take mine as the lid was broken… well guess what it was gone too! The first people ordered a new bin but in the meantime theirs showed up so they gave me their new one. On a late night dog walk I did find my old one a few doors down (but what had happened to their bin)? Nothing has happened since.
Now it’s all gone down in our streets lore as the great blue bin mystery (and they say London is unfriendly).
