To feel concerned at seeing a neighbour being taken in police van...

Just went out to walk the dog and saw a police van parked a couple of doors down, opposite side of road. Two police officers were coming out of the house carrying clear plastic bags with items inside. I couldn't see what was in the bags. The police officers were wearing blue plastic gloves. A man was coming with them out of the house. I don't think he was handcuffed and didn't seem to be resisting - and he was going into the back of the police van, where one of the policeman was accompanying him.

I WFH alone and now feel uneasy. We have young teenagers who will be home from school later. I don't know if anyone else is still in the house where the police were, or what the arrest - if it was an arrest - was about.

YABU - it's none of your business and not necessarily for you to worry about

YANBU - you're right to feel uneasy, you don't know what has happened in very close proximity to your family home

Yabu its could literally be anything. I was once taken out of my house by police when I was suicidal and they took knives and allsorts out my house. My neighbours must of thought allsorts but im not a danger to others most people aren't. If uts anything of any significant it will be on Facebook before long.

AmyDuPlantier · 23/06/2025 11:43

YABU. They’ve literally removed the guy who seems to be the problem from the house, what’s there to feel uneasy about? The best time to worry was yesterday when he was still there 😆

Cillaere · 23/06/2025 11:44

I used to have a neighbour like him. In my experience, he will be back in a few hours. Even when my neighbour was put in prison, he was back within a few months. I imagine he is a dealer. Can you move home at all?

Talltreesbythelake · 23/06/2025 11:46

What do you imagine is going to happen? The Police are busy arresting people and seizing evidence in residential streets every day of the week. If they thought you needed to know about this, they would knock on your door to inform you. If you hadn't noticed this event you would be none the wiser.

nightvisiting · 23/06/2025 11:46

When one of my relatives died unexpectedly, this could describe the scenario with the police exactly. Blue gloves, evidence bags, and all. I also spent some peaceful time with the police giving a statement, since I was the one who found them. So it might not be anything sinister. If it is, it's probably been going on a long time already with you none the wiser.

Anzena · 23/06/2025 11:47

Maybe it's a person who was being physically abusive to his partner/spouse. That would be good and he'd be gone and hopefully restrained from returning.

I do understand your concern though, as it could be for many reasons, none of them innocent I'd imagine or he would be invited to the station for an interview or spoken to at home.

foreverbasil · 23/06/2025 11:49

Don’t look at your local crime map or you’ll never sleep again! Unless you live somewhere very unusual there crime going on everywhere…and that’s the stuff that’s reported

MargotTenenbaumscoat · 23/06/2025 11:52

It could be anything.
Why panic?

It’s the ones that haven’t been caught that are more worrying…..

DiscoBob · 23/06/2025 11:56

Well presumably he's less of a danger now that the police know what he's up to, that is if he did anything wrong in the first place.
I'd be more concerned for his welfare then thinking he's an axe wielding rapist.

Either way it really isn't any of your business. You can't exactly just up and move because one person had involvement with the police once?

FOJN · 23/06/2025 11:57

If your neighbour had been involved in anything which was both illegal and dangerous to neighbours you would either have been warned by the police or neighbourhood gossip would have been rife by now.

It sounds like you're a bit bored.

I disagree

Op any wonder you are worried

This happened close to my house a few years ago
Turns out he had been involved in some very sinister acts

Sounds like it shocked you and I can't blame you 😞😞

This.

He's probably been arrested for posting online. 30 odd people per day get nicked for that sort of thing.

ThatBreezyRaven · 23/06/2025 12:08

@TheNoonBell posting what online?

OP posts:
Waterweight · 23/06/2025 12:09

I would be nosy as fuck but not particularly scared if you've not had run ins with them & the police are already there

Waterweight · 23/06/2025 12:11

ThatBreezyRaven · 23/06/2025 12:08

@TheNoonBell posting what online?

Drug info or distribution of child pornography (downloaded from one site posted on another) ect.

rowenwren · 23/06/2025 12:11

What’s weird thing to start a thread about.

Waterweight · 23/06/2025 12:13

Drug info or distribution of child pornography (downloaded from one site posted on another) ect.

Also to add this is not what I'm saying he did & any talk of his "crimes" should absolutely not be taken seriously by OP as we simply dont know this person or his family at all.

PollyBell · 23/06/2025 12:16

Why would you be more at risk than anyone in the neighbourhood if there was something to be scared about in the first place ?

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 23/06/2025 12:16

Sorry but you are being an absolute drama queen over this. It has nothing to do with you and no amount of speculation on here will give you the answers. It sounds like you dont know this neighbour so it wont affect you in the slightest

ThatBreezyRaven · 23/06/2025 12:18

@FOJN there was a burglary at the house next door to ours - the burglars entered through the park behind our gardens - and we weren't informed by the police in any way.

And no, I'm not bored - working full time, 2 kids, a very unwell parent - thanks for mis-judging though

Yes YABU

Its not about You

Bundleflower · 23/06/2025 12:24

YABU and quite sheltered to be so worried. I would, however, be straight round to my next door neighbour to have a bit of a gossip to see what’s going on (terrible to admit, I know).

Wingedharpy · 23/06/2025 12:28

In reality, none of us know what our neighbours are up to behind closed doors - and long may that remain.

Betty1625 · 23/06/2025 12:28

Can you get CCTV for your property for the peace of mind? And /or intruder alarms?
Alot of them can be self installed and very discreet
