Thunder headaches

Do you get them? Is it a thing? I’ve had a headache all day that feels like pressure rather than migraine pain. Sure enough the heavens have just opened, no thunder yet though.

I do have a lingering cold so it could easily be linked to that but I do have form for getting these pressure headaches when a storm is due.

YES! I was literally just wondering the same. I feel out of sorts and a bit groggy and just ‘heady’ - am desperate for the weather to break but so far just very cloudy and muggy here 🫠

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 22/06/2025 17:26

Yep, me too. I’ve had them for yonks.

Is it high pressure or low pressure that causes them?
I can never remember.

MindBodySoul · 22/06/2025 17:28

Yes!

housebound34 · 22/06/2025 17:28

It’s not even thundering here just heavy rain but it already feels a bit better or maybe that’s the glass of wine.

I think the technical term is barometric pressure headaches. Its often to do with your sinuses. I have terrible sinus problems and get headaches all the time when the weather pressure lowers - rain and especially thunder. I'd love to live somewhere with consistently high pressure and no rain.

Yeah, shittest super power ever. I wanted telekinesis or invisibility or to walk through walls. But no, I get headaches before a storm, what would even be the costume for that!

Deerrobin · 22/06/2025 18:02

Yes! But I seem to forget each time and spend a couple of hours wondering what on earth this weird headache is until the storm starts and the penny drops!

TeaHagTeaBag · 22/06/2025 18:16

Yep, I've had a headache since Wednesday, swollen glands since Friday and no painkillers make a dent in it. It lashed rain about 20 mins ago and I'm fine now.

noctilucentcloud · 22/06/2025 18:16

I get very dizzy a couple of hours before a thunderstorm and tend to feel better as soon as the rain starts.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 22/06/2025 19:25

Oh yes, here too- dh always cheerfully points out they’d burn me as a witch in the olden days.

Viviennemary · 22/06/2025 19:26

I've had a headache today.

HappyMuma · 22/06/2025 20:21

I get a stabbing headache just above my eyes right before a storm, I can always tell when they are coming! I thought it was just me!

FTHC · 22/06/2025 20:25

Yes, as pp said it's a really shit super power isn't it 🤣

Frozo · 22/06/2025 20:30

The American Headache Association (or whatever they’re called) found that 75% of migraine sufferers correlated a low pressure weather with migraine onset. It’s supposedly to do with the disparity between the pressure in our brains/sinuses/etc and the outside world.

Blodyneighbour · 22/06/2025 21:00

I never get headaches, but I did yesterday. Makes me wonder if it's because the pressure changed.

SnoopyPajamas · 22/06/2025 22:46

Yeah, it's the pressure. I can always tell when there's thunder on the way!

FionnulaTheCooler · 22/06/2025 22:49

I had one that started on Friday evening and lasted through until Saturday morning but I'd put it down to the heat and not drinking enough water at work on Friday.

housebound34 · 22/06/2025 22:50

It actually didn’t thunder in the end and I still have a headache and heavy feeling in my sinuses. Definitely feels as though the hot air has broken so not sure about the air pressure. Maybe I’m just ill.

Same here! Been dying for the storm to just arrive! It’s almost like that weird thing when the train is pulling into a station and hasn’t stopped but also isn’t moving!
