…to wonder how we fall in love when bodies are kind of grim?

Idle brain wandering - Seen a few posts advising to get over heartbreak or a crush on some bloke by imagining him the loo or whatever to prove he ain’t great - but, erm, everyone does that! Even people who are great 😂 Sometimes I wonder how we fall in love at all up against with the weird undignified reality of just having a body with all its functions. Sometimes just having a body feels so gross myself I wonder why I’m looking to share space with another one!

Killing animals and dead chicken meat is disgusting as well but we all eat them because of hunger. So it goes for man chicken, we get the horny hunger and before you know it you’re a bargain bucket deep

Pricelessadvice · 21/06/2025 19:27

I think about this all the time! That we are essentially just housing a mass of gross organs. It really freaks me out. And that people are walking around with poop in them waiting to come out.

I think this is one of the reasons I think I’m likely asexual. I just get too freaked out by bodies!

sidetosidebackwards · 21/06/2025 19:31

I think you've got it the wrong way round!

People fall in love in order to get over other people being grim. Hence the expression LOVE IS BLIND.

It's really not uncommon for women, years later, when it's all over to find men that used to make them go weak at the knees in the lust of youth actually repulsive. and I mean repulsive - like I couldn't even touch him if you paid me millions.

The falling in love bit gets you over the grotequeness of manky yellow toenails, pubic hair and anuses.

CavalierApproach · 21/06/2025 19:35

Even though I am a bit of a stereotypical MN clean freak, some posts on this thread seem really sad and dysfunctional. Our internal organs are not ‘gross’ ffs

Ah, I think @sidetosidebackwards has it right!

I have been thinking exactly the same - humans can be gross myself included.

I was looking at my toes the other day thinking they put me off let alone other people.

Yes a lot to be said for hormones! They are the basic driver.

Now at 56 and very lonely - 7 years post divorce from a horrible man, I would love to meet someone - but apart from my many hang ups generally and my neediness, I wonder about the body thing as well 😂.

You could be me!! Especially with the dodgy toes!

Have you ever seen them?? 😂
They aren’t exactly attractive!

Katemax82 · 21/06/2025 20:04

I've definitely become more gross since having children

This is true!

And how the phrase "what was I thinking" is heard so often.

When I think back to a shortish relationship I had. The man was like a woolly mammoth he was so hairy. Did it bother me then, no. Does it bother me now thinking back, yip a whole lot.

I don't even like myself that much right now, so I'm going with someone is really going to have to fall out of the sky and right in love to overlook what I see. 😂

You fall in love with the personality contained in a body - that they are kind, friendly, gentle, loving, attentive, warm etc etc etc is what matters surely?

You don’t just fall in love with the personality though, do you? Or else we’d all be bisexual.

TaupeMember · 21/06/2025 20:22

Have never wished for the laughing reaction more than when reading the comments on this thread 😂

Totally agree op btw!

orlamug · 21/06/2025 20:22

I don't know or I kind of do know what the OP means and I do sort of find bodies kind of gross especially feet but I don't seem to mind my DH's body or find it grim.

Hungryrain · 21/06/2025 20:25

I don’t get the sweaty bollock aversion on here!

Anyway, a good hard cock is a thing of wonder and beauty. That moment when the pants come off and you see it. That moment is brilliant.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 21/06/2025 20:28

Noshowlomo · 21/06/2025 16:50

I know EXACTLY what you mean. We wash, make ourselves look lovely, shave, wax etc, but humans are so grim.
Even the sexy people at the gym, you know they’ve got big sweaty balls. Grim!
I think about it often. 😂😂

I remember the first gym I belonged to having an communal changing room. As a fattie, I was amazed that the women who looked good, dressed, were not attractive naked. Never saw an attractive boob, the whole time I belonged to that gym. And there were a lot of gym bunny types there too.

And women, IMO, are generally more attractive physically than men. So god help the turkey neck and chicken gizzard brigade!

LeaveALittleNote · 21/06/2025 20:31

I do often think about this. Sweaty balls don’t really bother me, but anuses and smegma bother me, and sometimes I look at these beautiful Hollywood actors from years gone by and it’s difficult to imagine their anuses and smegma.
Also, nose picking is something that bothers me. I quite like picking my own nose (because I’m a hypocrite), but the thought of other people tugging large bogies from their nostrils is a bit off putting.

Poor you! Though I am glad I am not alone in my aloneness. How do you cope with it?

I am finding it hard to be honest.

BarilynBordeaux · 21/06/2025 20:33

‘Chicken gizzard brigade‘ omg 😂

OP posts:
RichHolidayPoorHoliday · 21/06/2025 20:37

I find (SOME) men very attractive

and them keeping their toilet habits private actually helps.
Some posters love nothing more than farting with their partners, or being in the same room when they use the loo, I find that revolting😂

Attractive men, it's someone clean, and their look, smell, touch. Nothing grim there.

Jamjams · 21/06/2025 20:41

Never even heard of smegma?! Why are people taking about internal organs and killing chickens and poo. Have none of you ever fancied the pants off someone or fallen head over heels and wanted to rip their clothes off?
Or ever felt dreamy about a gorgeous celebrity?
Who looks at beautiful actors and thinks about bum holes..?

Zippidydoodah · 21/06/2025 20:43

Jonathan Swift agreed with you decades ago in his poem ‘The Lady’s Dressing Room’

Yes I am not quite sure why things have taken this turn 😂😂.

I fancy someone at the moment - I am still self-conscious and shy however, just in relation to my own body.

Anxious2024 · 21/06/2025 20:45

Funny thread though 😂😂😂. It has cheered me up.

TessTickle0 · 21/06/2025 20:47

When I was going through my klaus phase (vampire dairies- a looong time ago) I never once thought about his arsehole.
Sadly he never thought about mine either!
