Help too old for concert

ripon432 · 21/06/2025 11:10

my dh and I are in our 60,s and love live music ( all types)

we saw dis lipas set at Glastonbury on tv, thought she was good and dh got tickets for Wembley

He is keen to go , I think we are too old and will stand out.

I am sure it will be an amazing stadium show but I am getting stressed now about going

I am worried about being completely out of place and humiliated

Should I refuse to go , or go and have a good time regardless of what people think

Just Looking for advise please

@ripon432 did you have a nice time? We loved it!!

ClareBlue · 22/06/2025 00:22

You are just winding us up. Anyone in their 60s that buys tickets and wants to go to a concert, whoever is playing, doesn't worry about what people might think about them being there.
Good try but no cigar.😁

nightvisiting · 22/06/2025 00:26

Just go. I went to a concert of a popular 80s band and was one of the youngest there.

I think you're being bloody ridiculous. Me and DP went to see Sean Paul recently, almost everyone there was over a decade younger than us, most of them were teenagers.

We still had a good time (actually, thats a complete lie. DP had a good time, I sat through it with gritted teeth because Sean Paul is god awful, but we all do things we hate for our partners. DP is coming to see Alanis Morrisette with me next week despite her sounding "like fingernails down a chalkboard" to her ears.)

Not a single person there is going to think "You're too old for this". Not a single person there is going to notice you. They're there to enjoy their own night. Unless you act a twat, you're just background noise.

CrewOfTheRevenge · 22/06/2025 08:22

Just go! At 50 I went to a university Student Union to see a very niche band so wasn’t packed, I stood out but didn’t give a jot.

sandgrown · 22/06/2025 08:27

We are going to see Stevie Wonder in a couple of weeks . The age range of the group is 21-68 . Go and watch whatever you like nobody cares .

echt · 22/06/2025 08:28

I've been going to gigs and festivals since my early 50s and at 70 still go. Really, no-one is looking.

Actually at one gig a whole bunch of late middle-aged people kept glancing over at me and DH. It was the band's debut gig and they were the mums and dads, plainly looking to see if they knew us. It was the Bamboos.

hby9628 · 22/06/2025 08:44

I had a friend who went this week…she’s 50 & said it was amazing. Go. Have a fabulous time.

MayaPinion · 22/06/2025 08:51

No no no! Go and enjoy the gig! My DP and I are in our late 50s and go to gigs all the time. There are loads of older people there. Never, ever, let age be the thing that stops you doing something you want to do.

Nobody is there to see you. They’re there to see the singer or band. They don’t care who you are. Besides, once it starts the lights go down and you can’t tell how old anyone is. The VERY last thing on my mind when I go to a gig is the age of the person next to me (I’m more concerned about how tall they are!).

DontTouchRoach · 22/06/2025 08:56

Nobody is going to give the tiniest of shits how old you are.

Daisy12Maisie · 22/06/2025 08:59

I took my son who was 15 to see the foo fighters. The crowd was a lot of middle aged men. It didn’t matter.
We loved it. I just took him to see Robbie Williams. Robbie did a special shout out to all the middle aged women watching him as that was most of the crowd. My son, now aged 16 just laughed. No one looked at him.
There will be a lot of younger people there but not exclusively. It doesn’t matter.

HelenCurlyBrown · 22/06/2025 09:01

We have got loads of friends who are in their 40s and 50s and are going to see Oasis at Wembley. I actually think most of the crowd will be older.

I am not going because I do think I’m too old (52). Not that I’d stick out or look conspicuous - I wouldn’t. But the negatives far outweigh the positives for me.

CrepuscularCritter · 22/06/2025 09:05

Go enjoy!

We're in our 60s and have a gig a month this year. No one has given us a stray glance of hate yet, and I wouldn't care it they did as that would be their problem.

MirrorMirror1247 · 22/06/2025 09:08

I think you should go for it. Life is short, so do what makes you happy. I think lots of people would admire you for going. I would! I hope I'm still up for going to gigs when I'm in my 60s!

How on earth has going for a gig or travelling solo or eating on your own become something to admire on MN?

It's so wet. Sorry but it is.

CurlewKate · 22/06/2025 09:09

Humiliated? How and by whom?

CurlewKate · 22/06/2025 09:12

Incidentally, this is one of the many reasons I get so outraged by Mumsnet ageism. The constant drip drip drip erodes people’s confidence and self worth.

I'm just trying to encourage the OP. There's no need to tear that down.

Holluschickie · 22/06/2025 09:15

Well OP hasn't responded.
I too am weary of all the drip drip drip ageism and sexism on MN.
Would you judge me if I ate alone/ travelled alone/ went to X and Y alone?

Nobody cares. Wars are going on.

Dontjudgeme101 · 22/06/2025 09:20

I hope you went last night op. I went yesterday with my dd and l am in my 50s. It was a fantastic concert. So many different ages of people attended. I am going to see her in Liverpool and Dublin too. See you there @MellowCoralFinch!

PinkyFlamingo · 22/06/2025 09:22

Do you honestly think other fans will look at you? That's a bit arrogant really

CandyCane457 · 22/06/2025 09:35

Who is going to humiliate you? Who else in the audience do you think cares about you being there? This is weird.

Just go. I went to a concert of a popular 80s band and was one of the youngest there.

That’s not so ‘unusual’ though as often there will be younger people there who’ve grown up with their parents playing the older music. I’m 50 and my era is 80/90s and there’s always a fair few younger people there. I like the mix of ages!

@ripon432 as everyone has been saying no one really cares in the moment and most actually like a varied and diverse crowd - just adds to the atmosphere! Dua Lipa has an amazing voice and I’m sure you’ll have an amazing experience!

crowsfeet57 · 22/06/2025 09:38

When you're in your seventies you will look back and wish you had gone. We went to the Isle of Wight Festival, we were both in our sixties and nobody gave us a second glance. Also we weren't the oldest there by a long shot.

Go! Enjoy yourselves and stop limiting yourselves due to your age!

There weren't younger people there. It was quite funny.
