ripon432 · 21/06/2025 11:10

my dh and I are in our 60,s and love live music ( all types)

we saw dis lipas set at Glastonbury on tv, thought she was good and dh got tickets for Wembley

He is keen to go , I think we are too old and will stand out.

I am sure it will be an amazing stadium show but I am getting stressed now about going

I am worried about being completely out of place and humiliated

Should I refuse to go , or go and have a good time regardless of what people think

Just Looking for advise please

I go to live concerts and I’m 70. I last went to see Mumford and Sons and before that First Aid Kit. You won’t stand out OP, people of all ages go to concerts.

Delphiniumandlupins · 21/06/2025 12:00

Most likely the rest of the audience will be there to enjoy the music and not even notice you.

Argh link won't post

She goes by the name "Momma Jane" to her son's friends, but now a 50 Cent super fan has been catapulted to international stardom.
Mary Jane Farquharson, 64, had the time of her life at the US rapper's Birmingham gig on Tuesday.

And she came away with more than she bargained for after a video of her moves went viral.
The clip has even been shared by the man himself, racking up hundreds of thousands of views online.

The 48-year-old rapper, real name Curtis Jackson, said Ms Farquharson was "by far" the coolest person at the Resorts World Arena show.
"She was rocking with me," he wrote on X, external, formerly known as Twitter.

She was introduced to rap music by her son. For Ms Farquharson, seeing the hip hop superstar had long been on her bucket list.

But it was not until long after she got home from the gig that she realised her moves had also become part of the show.

Ms Farquharson, from Nuneaton, had woken at the crack of dawn to tend to her Staffordshire Bull Terrier Faith, who needs eye drops.
She then went back to bed before realising her phone was buzzing like mad.

'I thought it was a wind up'
"I didn't take any notice of it," she said. "I thought, 'I will deal with that later'."

However, the hip-hop lover was blown away when she finally looked at her mobile.b"All my friends and neighbours were sending me messages," she said. "I thought, 'This is a wind up'," she added.

Ms Farquharson thanked the thousands of people who had left "nice comments", but said she did not class herself as an old lady.

"If you meet me, I'm not," she joked. "I can hold my own with anybody, young or old."

Ms Farquharson - pictured in her 50 Cent tour merchandise - said her TV was permanently tuned to MTV

While perhaps slightly older than 50 Cent's core demographic, she cannot get enough of rap music after being introduced by her son Ross, 38, who was also at the concert with her.

Ms Farquharson said the genre was regularly played at home, with Detroit rapper Eminem also among her favourites.

"If you were to visit my room all I have ever got on the telly is MTV," she said.

Ms Farquharson said she particularly enjoyed hearing her favourite 50 Cent song In da Club during the concert - a song which also serves as her mobile ringtone.

She claimed she was spotted on Tuesday by support act Busta Rhymes before being filmed by a member of the production crew.

"I was having a whale of time," she added. "I thought he was filming the crowd behind me, I'm not special."

Ms Farquharson now hopes she will get to meet 50 Cent after he shared her performance on social media.

What is this utter nonsense I’m reading?

Cone on, @ripon432 - you’re making people in their 60s look stupid. Please stop it.

Exactly. Surely you are way past the age of caring what people think!

Hoolihan · 21/06/2025 12:01

Absolute main character energy here OP. No-one will give you a second thought, why would they? And aside from that, it'll be full of parents accompanying their tweens/teens so you wouldn't stand out even if you tried.

ChaToilLeam · 21/06/2025 12:01

Kindly, nobody will notice or care. Go and have a fabulous time. The only thing you're too old for is a kids' ticket in a theme park.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 21/06/2025 12:04

Literally, no one will give a shit. There are going to be people of all ages there

WonsWoo · 21/06/2025 12:06

Im 54. On Thursday I was at a concert where the average age was about 23/24. I had a great time and if anyone thought it was weird I was oblivious. I was alone and sat next some lovely people who chatted and exchanged tips for an upcoming concert.

Go. Have a fabulous time and lighten up!

Jasmin71 · 21/06/2025 12:21

I still take my mum to concerts and she is nearly 80. We have been going together since we first went to see Bowie in the 80's.

As long as she gets a seat and doesn't have to walk too far we will continue to do so. I'm not much younger than you and I don't give a stuff what others think.

Do what you enjoy while you can is the way I see it.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 21/06/2025 12:25

@ripon432 my 72 yr old dh is going with my 16 yr old grandaughter to a gig in manchester in august. she wants to see the band. i am staying home but will book a hotel for them as it is too far for dh to drive back at that time of night. it is about 6 hours away. secretly going onto amazon to buy a grey pony tail to attach to his hair so he doesnt feel out of place!

Silvertulips · 21/06/2025 12:29

Went to a concert a few weeks ago, I’m 56, in front of me was a young girl, maybe 10 with her family, to one side was a group on woman in their 30’s, behind me was a mixed group in their 60’s, the younger crowd, 20’s were lower down dancing.

I enjoyed the concert and didn’t concern myself with others ages.

Deeandwizzy · 21/06/2025 12:31

I went yesterday, I’m late fifties. You’ll be fine!

FastFood · 21/06/2025 12:34

I'm 45 and I sometimes go to raves, I often see people in their 50s - 60s and let me tell you: no one cares and if someone does, it's because they think those are really cool people and hope they'll be the same at their age.

Tulipssndturkeys · 21/06/2025 12:35

Have absolutely no idea about who the act is that you are talking about - but that is exactly the point - the only thing that matters is that YOU like them and you want to go.

Go and have a fab time.

who cares if anyone else thinks you are too old / too young.

unless it’s hurting other people why should it matter what you do?

I hate the way people like to pigeon hole us into boxes - we’re ’too old’ for Disney - we’re too young for radio 4 - just stop being forced into other people narrow minded opinions and go and enjoy what matters to you and don’t spend a second worrying about anyone else. It is not their business!!!!

go go go and enjoy!

Shivermetimbers0112 · 21/06/2025 12:38

I’m 63. Saw Sparks last week. Coming up I’ve got Wilco, St Vincent, Stevie Wonder, Ruarri Joseph, Edwin Collins, Emily Barker and Thea Gilmore. Don’t write yourself off just yet ! By the way, the Sparks brothers are both late 70s and absolutely blasting it live.

TheBewleySisters · 21/06/2025 12:47

My friend and I (70 and 71) are regular gig goers. This year we’ve seen Robbie, Nile Rogers, 10cc, Beyoncé. and lots more. No one gives us a second look.

LlynTegid · 21/06/2025 12:52

My sister and a friend went last night and are not much younger than you. Neither is Jay Kay who came on for one song.

Enjoy the evening.

Pizza4Tea · 21/06/2025 12:55

Go and enjoy yourself! Do you really care that much about what other people think? Life is too short to worry about shit like this!

BiscuitBotherer · 21/06/2025 12:58

Fuck’s sake, with the greatest of respect who’s going to be looking at you? Have you never been to a gig before? I’ve never given a shit about how old anyone is around me - I do care if they’re taller than me, and blocking my view.

How do people live in the world under the constant threat of a stranger’s judgement?

ChandrilanDiscoDroid · 21/06/2025 13:04

Wembley is a 90,000 capacity venue. And it'll be full. You're going to have to try a lot harder than "be 60+" to stand out in that crowd.

MellowCoralFinch · 21/06/2025 13:16

You won't stand out at all. I saw pics of the crowd last night (standing and in the seats) and saw lots of people over 50. I'm seeing her in Dublin on Friday and can't wait.

Flozle · 21/06/2025 14:13

I’m 57 - went to see LCD Soundsystem at Brixton O2 Academy last night. Nobody cared about my age, just as no one will care about yours. And even if they do, that’s their issue not yours. Go and have fun 😊

Swirlframe · 21/06/2025 14:16

I don't know the band, but me and my friends, mid 50s - mid 60s go to festivals all the time. We're never unusual and often in the majority.

Iloveeverycat · 21/06/2025 14:17

My DD goes to 80s festivals and is surrounded buy people in their 60s no one bats an eyelid.

TheFormidableMrsC · 21/06/2025 14:31

Don’t be daft! I went to see Machine Gun Kelly when I was 54 and I definitely wasn’t the oldest there and he was bloody great 😆
