It’s driving me mental so he does have a physical job and I appreciate that it’s been hot this week but he’s fallen asleep at 6.30 - given him a nudge he’s fallen back to sleep, I’ve put the kids to bed.

he will either sleep now and then be up at like 5am he’s playing golf tomorrow morning and then he will probably end up falling asleep either early again or have an afternoon nap.

it’s really pi55ing me off! As I feel like I’m just on my own of an evening I’d say 4 nights out of 7 this happens. If it’s weekend and we have a few drinks or watch a movie he will nod off - if it’s golf of boxing tho he somehow manages to stay up!

wahhhhhhh maybe I’m just boring haha

I thought you were going to say 8.30pm which I feel is reasonable! But 6pm when you have kids is just skiving from family life.

I'd be asking him if there's any point in staying together and have the conversation. He's got a bit complacent and is taking you for granted I think.

I'm like your partner. I get home from work and often fall asleep on the sofa the second I've eaten dinner. On my days off I fall asleep on the sofa. I work very long hours, my job is stressful and physically demanding. I'm exhausted constantly. I've had blood tests, my iron and everything else is fine. I'm trying to change and avoid sitting down during the day because I know I'll fall asleep but when you're tired, you're tired!
Give the man a break or sit down and have a conversation about it, tell him it's bothering you for x,y,z reasons.

I have given him a break I’ve cooked tea cleaned up put the kids to bed done the school run and the food shop and the washing so yeah I’ve defo given him a break and tomorrow he will be able to play golf with his pals whilst I do two kids parties and then he’ll probably be tired again come 7pm as he will be up early as fallen asleep at 6pm!

He's a lightweight.

Does that mean he wakes up early, and deals with the kids in the morning, leaving you to sleep then?

That said, it sounds like he's sleeping for over 10 hours a night. I'd be concerned medically something is wrong, as that isn't typical either.

No he leaves the house at 7.30 and gets home about 4.30

You just sit down and let your partner look after the children alone every night, then get up early and fuck off to play golf and you think that's ok?

Wonderwall23 · 20/06/2025 21:17

As a one off, on a boiling hot day with a physical job I would let it go.

Sounds like this is a regular thing though, so yanbu. Unless there's a medical reason it sounds like he's either doing it to avoid parenting or just sees that as your job so doesnt care. Neither of which are OK!

I would just be blunt with him about it.

That's the bit I'd be fuming about.

Funnyduck60 · 21/06/2025 17:44

Annoying but he can't help it. I fall asleep evening but my kids are grown up so it's less annoying.

IdiottoGoa · 21/06/2025 17:48

Is he unwell? I’m doing this at the moment because I’m on some really heavy duty meds. Fortunately DH is really understanding (and our kids are older).

minipie · 21/06/2025 17:48

He’s in a vicious cycle, wake up early, fall asleep early.

Maybe he needs a scheduled nap time like 5-6. He sets his alarm to end the nap and then he has the evening with you and goes to bed at a normal time.

Tulipssndturkeys · 21/06/2025 19:22

Wake him up!!!

‘I’ll put George in the bath and you can start tidying up the duplo with Pepper’

don’t stand for it and start directing him …
