Nits!!!

Posting here for traffic! Hope ok.
Just packing to go away, and my child (almost teen) has just announced they’ve found a nit! On closer inspection they do indeed have nits!
it’s been 5 years 🤩
I have … 3x nit combs, half a bottle of nitty gritty liquid, loads of conditioner & some hair straighteners…
and no access to any shops.
…we have the whole evening to tackle this
Can I do us both a treatment based on these items?
it’s just us, I have shortish hair 🤪
Any Advice/encouragement welcome

Honestly I suspect you’ll need to do it again on those resources. Assume you can’t drive? Maybe pick something up on your way to holiday?

Lots of conditioner brushed through, section hair into teeny sections and comb thoroughly.

WizardofCoz · 20/06/2025 22:09

Thanks both :)
Disabled & rural so can’t get to shops til tomor.
Two hours of entire bottle of conditioner, combing, conditioner, combing.. the head lice lotion is out of date so haven’t used that.
Will do a proper treatment while we are away! 😜

Is one of the combs a nitty gritty one? They are amazing with just conditioner. Then when done, use straighteners if you can.

FishPie2 · 20/06/2025 22:17

Get some more conditioner when you get whe reyou are going and carry on from there. I got them from a friends niece and couldn't do anything about it until the next day, it is not the end of the world, it's just insects.

Hayley1256 · 20/06/2025 22:18

Have you got any hair dye? I read that instantly kills the live ones

Endofyear · 20/06/2025 22:42

In my experience, the treatments don't work very well. I always did lots of conditioner and meticulous nitcombing every night until every little bastard is gone!

WizardofCoz · 20/06/2025 23:56

Well I have 1x nitty gritty comb & 2x other
have been alternating & washing the combs in boiling water
thiz is 🤮 but I found like, 100 in my child’s hair & only one in my hair… the conditioner was literally like a head lice ice rink
no idea if it kills the eggs
@CocoPlumwe did the straighteners after
hope that zapped a few more
Not the relaxing eve I was planning
My child was waaaay more freaked out than me 😝

Has the same with DD, picked them up at 11, first time ever! She has masses of curly hair and we just did every other day comb through with conditioner and nitty gritty then straightening for about 12 days and got rid.
