To have chased the person who took my cat?

They took my poor cat from our front wall, and started walking off! I was in the kitchen which faces out onto the front garden, and ran outside, I called after them and they said "oh I'm taking it to the vet, its a lost cat!" I said, "no, its our cat, put him down!!" they were very funny with me walked off muttering "only trying to help" thankfully releasing my cat before doing so.

I understand people have concerns for lost animals, but to take one pretty much off my property, has good samaritanism gone too far?

This is rife in the village where I live. People pick up cats that are just out for a little stroll near their garden and claim them as lost etc making a huge fuss on social media. one woman pinched my MIL’s cat and refused to give it back. That’s why I don’t let mine out as too many nutters about.

At least he didn’t put him in the wheelie bin I guess.

…what was that all about?

I reckon that the intrusive thoughts got the better of her. (No, I've never been tempted to put a cat in a bin.)

Hi thanks for all the replies. Just updating to let you all know the weird man did not return. Goodness knows what it was all about.

Just to appease, his name is Bertie and he is a "plain ordinary" cat no specialist pedigree etc. Just a beaut of a ginger kitty :)

Does the cat have a collar? Why would they pick it up when it was on your property? Sounds like something suspicious is going on… hmm.

TW mentions dcat being hit..
Dd had been feeding a dcat at her bf's.. Hiding under a car the whole week hadn't moved...
Dd found the owner on fb with a missing poster.. She sent dd a video to show it was her dcat. Same markings and eyes etc..
Dd was over the moon.
Woman turned up (after asking if dd could drop it back) started punching the dcat on the head!
Dd's bfs family tried to intervene and got a mouthful of abuse and threats - young siblings told to shut up and stop crying.. Off she went. Police not interested and the lost post now gone or I was going to shame her. No wonder the dcat (and it's mate still unfound) had ran off.
Poor bloody dcat.

The community group is full of people talking about cats they found who they assume are lost. It’s completely ridiculous but then again, so is letting a pet out and expecting it to come to no harm.

I certainly wouldn't expect any normal human being to deliberately inflict harm on an animal.

Or knocked over? Or locked in somewhere?

Of course accidents may happen, but I'm talking about others with ill intent against an animal, like the man in the op.

Edited

Accidents do happen and I care a lot about that - that’s why I don’t let my precious pet out of door without me.

I'd have been very happy with that as my cat is currently missing having escaped from his cat cage on the way to the vets. However if he had been on my garden wall, not so pleased so I see your point.
