Break in at Brize Norton two jets damaged

I'm stunned that the base used by the prime minister, ministers, the royal family VIPs from overseas can be breached like this so easily.

Apparently by a Palestinian organisation.

We can't even defend on our own soil

Oh to be a fly on the wall in Brize right now

To get in on e scooters, vandalize the jets and get out again is just bad. They'll have to look at security at every base now including the one near me

Airfields/aiports have very long perimeters that take a lot of securing,..

These days if you look at places like Heathrow you'll see high fences, razor wire and lots more beside..(e.g. an obvious police presence)...all due to the perceived threat to civil aviation post the likes of 9/11.

I'm guessing MoD didn't perceive a threat or wouldn't pay for whatever was required..

JoshLymanSwagger · 20/06/2025 10:29

Not at all concerned about the damage to the jets.

Very concerned about national security.

So all you need is some tin snips/wire cutters to breach the fence and an e-scooter to get away?!?! 🤯

Whoever is in charge of security - I wouldn't want their arse this morning.

notimagain · 20/06/2025 10:43

I'd be wary of simply blaming the Duty NCO in the Guardroom for this, but I suppose that is quite possibly all that will happen.

The whole security set up/posture will have been in the hands of the grown ups at wherever the relevant command HQ is these days, plus some at Westminster...

As for "the jets", I guess the damage will buff out and paint over for a few hundred thousand quid, maybe more...

From Palestine Action website

Palestine Action is running training days across the country, to bring together like minded people for a day of talks, trainings and group discussions. All of which is geared towards harnessing the strength of the grassroots and directing it towards bringing down Israel...

sounds very much like a terrorist organisation to me

SerendipityJane · 20/06/2025 11:05

Might possibly not even get convicted.

Parky04 · 20/06/2025 11:07

They should have been shot. Security have failed spectacularly!

Shudacudawuda · 20/06/2025 11:08

Kier Starmer had called it 'vandalism' which is massively downplaying what has happened. I dislike that man more and more every day.

Don't know about that but there's certainly some debate elsewhere his AM about what sanctions should be applied to last night's intruders, if or when they are caught....

Is this an offence that should simply be treated as almost "high jinks" or a political protest by or are something more serious I don't anyone is thinking we're into :Arson in His Majesty's shipyard" territory but some are suggesting quite a robust response.

As noted, they could be acquitted

Thanks, forgotten about that lot.

I knew a guy whose job it was to guard Vulcan Bombers (so going back a bit) when they were armed and ready to go.

They were commanded to shoot anyone approaching the plane without orders (so not crew). No questions.

Kier Starmer had called it 'vandalism' which is massively downplaying what has happened. I dislike that man more and more every day.

If they'd been shot, the consequence could have been considerable numbers of attacks, demonstrations (and in this weather, we all know what happens when people are pissed off with governments, rightly or wrongly), much about this meaning they're anti Gaza, etc, etc, etc. Especially as posh white folk with orange paint (and an unwavering sense of entitlement mixed with confidence that they aren't like the other criminals) don't get more than the occasional visit to prison and lots of sympathy online.

Better to say it's an irritation whilst going ballistic in private and having the whole lot rounded up under PoT Act but still alive.

Hedjwitch · 20/06/2025 12:02

And this is what happens when you cut Defence to the bone over years. We are not in a position to fight anyone,or even protect our own land.

notimagain · 20/06/2025 12:18

If they'd been shot,

I suspect those involved knew enough from what's in the public domain to know they were not going to get shot...

I fear however at some point one of these groups is going to mess around somewhere they shouldn't (see @JoshLymanSwagger 's post as an example of the why and where), and then if they survive they'll finally understand what FAFO means.

Portakalkedi · 20/06/2025 12:22

Such actions will make people even less willing to support their so-called 'cause' just as with the Stop Oil idiots, but this goes a step further towards terrorism. Yes they should have been shot. Why don't all these people with grudges try doing something to HELP the causes they shout and whine about?

justasking111 · 20/06/2025 14:49

Jakers Starmer was involved in that trial on the appellant team

I recall years ago someone taking pictures outside our RAF base comings and goings. Said he was a plane spotter. He was accused of spying.... etc. we get all sorts passing over just wave at them, never share on social media.

Massive security failure and lucky they weren’t shot.

Hope they come up against guards who are armed and not afraid to use to use them. Hopefully it would stop them doing it again.

It is a security failure but It really isn't lucky they weren't shot.

It's peacetime, I don't think it's giving anything away to suggest that the current Rules of Engagement would not allow a member of HM Forces to use deadly force to prevent someone from simply damaging an aircraft...and many currently serving or who have served in HM Forces are well aware how quickly the Human Rights lawyers can be deployed when it suits interested parties.
