Break in at Brize Norton two jets damaged

I'm stunned that the base used by the prime minister, ministers, the royal family VIPs from overseas can be breached like this so easily.

Apparently by a Palestinian organisation.

We can't even defend on our own soil

Who has it terrified or terrorised? If the planes are for Israel to bomb more children in Gaza, it’s preventing genocide, which is legal.

It's an act of terrorism against the state.

There is no genocide in Gaza ffs, I don't want to derail the thread any further but the way people assert it when it literally is not happening is really irritating. It's the boy who cried wolf. It's Gaza losing the war it started, no one whines about the tens of thousands of missiles Palestine is bombarding Israel with, luckily Israel spent money on protection. There, I've said it like more people should, I'm not interested in quibbling any more.

@Alltheprettyseahorses
I agree. It blatantly states its purpose on their website ’to bring down Israel’
I wish they would fuck off to Israel and do it then. Total knob jockeys, the lot of them.

To get in on e scooters, vandalize the jets and get out again is just bad. They'll have to look at security at every base now including the one near me

All airports and airbases are massive with miles of perimeter fences, unless you want spotlights and guard towers, people are going to get in , just think back to Greenham Common invasions in the 80s on National Television

Palestine Action is to be proscribed as a terrorist organisation after its activists damaged two RAF planes at an air base.

The organisation will be added to the list of banned groups alongside Hamas, al-Qaeda and Islamic State after its activists broke into RAF Brize Norton and sprayed red paint into the engines of two Airbus Voyager aircraft.

The move means that it will be illegal to be a member of the group, to invite support for it or to wear clothing or carry flags or placards backing it. Anyone caught doing so will face up to 14 years in jail.

You can make it a lot harder than it appeared to at Brize though.

If you get the chance (which I know most people won't) it's worth comparing the fencing/razor wire that surrounds the entirety of somewhere like Heathrow verses the "not a lot" around most RAF bases...Heathrow also has a significant visible police presence..

However Heathrow charges using airlines an arm and a leg in things like takeoff and landing fees, ramp charges to pay for security cover, amingst other things.....anything the RAF does has to be paid for by the treasury -> tax payer.

Longtimelurkerfinallyposts · 20/06/2025 20:17

I'm glad they took action to stop the UK being as complicit in what's happening to Palestine.

For those that haven't been paying attention up till now, Palestine Action are mostly UK citizens who are alarmed by the fact that our military has been assisting Israel's genocide* for the past few years (from our bases in Cyprus) and have chosen to take effective direct action about it (as marching in our thousands almost every weekend obviously isn't working).

It's not 'terrorism' (and arguably not even a crime, if it prevents a bigger crime) to damage war planes in order to prevent them being used to kill and maim Palestinians of all ages. Whatever Starmer and the Evening Standard say. There is a long, long tradition of anti-war activists taking this kind of action (and in many cases being found not guilty by the courts), and I applaud them.
Check out https://tridentploughshares.org/ for just one example.

I am disgusted by all the 'they should shoot them' commenters. If any of you gave a fuck about 'national security' you'd be pressuring your Govt to stop spending so much on weapons of mass destruction (eg nukes) and put more effort into stopping wars, rather than treating them as an ideal opportunity to sell arms made in this country. And you'd be writing letters of outrage about the lax security on bases like Brize Norton.

Trident Ploughshares – Trident Ploughshares is a campaign to disarm the UK Trident nuclear weapons system in a nonviolent, open, peaceful and fully accountable manner

I had a look at Palestine Action website. They have a list of training days. There's one this Sunday. I presume that they won't be going ahead now

The definition of terrorist seems to have broadened somewhat. Are you quite sure that a spray paint job is the equivalent of a bomb? You might wish to have a rethink

You may want to look up the Terrorist Act 2000.
They have disabled 2 military planes.

PomegranateVase · 20/06/2025 21:02

Should have shot them.

Pedallleur · 20/06/2025 21:03

JoshLymanSwagger · 20/06/2025 11:52

I knew a guy whose job it was to guard Vulcan Bombers (so going back a bit) when they were armed and ready to go.

They were commanded to shoot anyone approaching the plane without orders (so not crew). No questions.

Edited

Cold war and the planes had nuclear weapons so the threat was different

Tbf it’s the pp who will have to rethink it, as they will be proscribed.

Pedallleur · 20/06/2025 21:06

The RAF should be embarrassed by this. Couple of people on scooters but suppose that had been a genuine terrorist or a foreign agent with some kind of bomb or chemical weapon? Seemingly no perimeter security, infra red cameras, motion detectors, roving patrols. Was everybody tucked up in bed? They were lucky it was some paint

It is a genocide and now I fully understand why they’ve been allowed to happen in the past- because people will excuse or deny one even when it’s right under their nose

I agree.

No matter what your view on the situation in the Middle East, no one should be able to get onto a military base and do what they did.

We have a lot of modern technology now. Surely systems should be in place to protect both assets and personnel.

Why wouldn't it go ahead?
The earliest Yvette Cooper (the current Home Secretary) can put anything before Parliament is Monday. There would then need to be new legislation made to have the effect of 'proscribing' the group.

They represent many thousands of people who are trying their best to act in solidarity with the people in Palestine.
At least mainstream media outlets like the BBC are now covering the story of British military support for Israel (something they've kept pretty quiet about up till now).

Organisations like Amnesty International have already come out to condemn the Home Office's announcement.

My neighbours are part of Palestine Action, also Stop Oil and Zero Waste. They are the biggest hypocrites ever. They put out food and general waste every week. They fly off on holiday when it suits. They have gas heating. They have a trust fund. She went to boarding school. They don’t do any gardening as they believe in natural planting, but it’s an excuse to be lazy. They don’t work, but they spend half their lives preaching on Tik Tok and Instagram. I hope they move soon because I spend my life avoiding them. I bloody wish it was them who sprayed the aircraft….might have a chance of being locked up.

cakeorwine · 20/06/2025 21:33

If they did that at RAF Akrotiri, they stand a very good chance of being shot.

The RAF over there are on high alert to people who want to disrupt their activities.

Not sure why this is relevant to the thread.
If they're 'hypocritical' when it comes to being involved in Palestine Action, what does that actually equate to? That they're secretly investing in the Israeli military-industrial complex and producing arms for them to use?
I'm glad to hear that you are a perfect, non-hypocritical person, doing your most each and every day to make the world a better/ safer/ more peaceful and less polluted place.
