Shared Parental Leave

Evening,

Need the hive minds help here, always found advice on here pretty decent and helpful!

Im taking maternity leave, 12 months. I get an enhanced rate. My husband and I want to take one months shared parental leave, in July. We work in different places

My work have sent me a breakdown of my
pay which is very confusing. It says im only entitlement to six weeks of my pay at 90% and after that its straight onto SMP at £187 a week-which is nothing, and not what we were expecting! Does opting into SPL mean you cut your entitlement? I should get 3months of 100% pay, so to see six weeks at 90% is very scary….

Im still waiting for my work to get back to me with the calculations so seeing what happened to others who have taken this option?

Thanks for reading

OP cannot have 12 months maternity and her partner take 1 month SPL.

I know she would need to curtail it by one month.

You've since edited your post, but it originally said she can’t be on maternity leave whilst her partner was on shared parental leave, which is the part I was correcting.

Haha yes this does rather prove how confusing the whole situation is!

ive applied for the 12months maternity off, so yes ill only actually have 11 months, as my partner wants one month off with us.

Im just really hopefully that my workplace has made a mistake as it looks like theyve given me the entitlement of someone who has less than one years service, whereas ive had a lot more than that, im almost sure thats whats happening here, as my shared parental leave wouldnt kick in until 6 weeks after my babys here, so before that id just be on maternity leave anyway

OP you have had some great advice here. Particularly around splitting it. Like @timmersmentions.

my only personal input, given we are crashing towards July. Is to consider splitting it.

is baby here? When will baby be here? What about the two weeks paternity leave?

DH is a farmer so no such thing here but HAD we been able to do so I wouldn’t have chosen that entire month, six weeks, initially. Save some for later when you see how land lies.

@Suzybiscuits you dont need to take shared leave as you can stay on maternity leave/pay while your dh takes the shared leave you have freed up for him.
