Why do some women continue to put up with men’s shitty behaviour?

Just today I’ve thread so many threads where women are upset due to their husbands or sons behaviour. Why are they continuing to put up with this crap. I find it sad that these men in their life continue to disappoint them so much, but what is the alternative for these women?

It’s what’s familiar to them. They are recreating childhood patterns.

Can you not think of reasons? I am by no means an expert in this area but here are a few off the top of my head: can't afford to leave - cost of housing in their areas - their career and prospects devalued by taking on more of a caregiver role at home where his job and earnings prioritised - they aren't sure it's 'bad' enough to leave hence posting on mumsnet - they grew up seeing family treated the same or worse- they see friends now treated the same or worse- socialised to accept that male lives and time more important than theirs - they are being abused and have slowly been manipulated into accepting it over a long period of time - they don't understand it's abuse - don't want to break up the family or upset their kids - have been socialised into thinking they need a man - think all men are the same so this is part and parcel of a relationship - and no doubt many more

Perhaps a more interesting and less victim blaming question is why do so many men exhibit shitty behaviour?

Because it's all they know and they can't afford to live alone.

An acquaintance has recently got married to a lazy, sexist man. It turned out that her dad is exactly the same.

Why are there so many shitty men around?
we know women are often at a disadvantage in the jobs market, have poorer finances (go part time after kids) and they have no money to leave terrible situations
it all stacks up against women
