My 11 year old has been playing with a WhatsApp chat bot - I didn’t know it had this capability. I went through it today and was horrified that in story telling mode it was sending messages with sexual content in it. Completely inappropriate for under 16s. I previously would consider myself fairly savvy with tech/ social media, (she has no social media accounts) but I did not know this was an issue. Having researched it, there’s no way to disable it and stop it sending inappropriate content. She’s deleted it now. I wanted to flag the issue in case I’m not the only one that didn’t realise WhatsApp had this capability. AIBU to think this is disgusting from Meta and they should moderate underage accounts with this feature and enable the ability to disable it

Well an eleven year old shouldn't have access to WhatsApp for a start as minimum age is 13, but is this Meta Ai or something else she has installed? If it's Meta Ai you should be able to report the messages.

It’s Meta AI under the search function. Yes she’s not 13 but the chat is also not suitable for any under 16 year olds. It should be able to be disabled and it’s disgusting that it’s not as most kids keep in contact using WhatsApp. How many parents know that WhatsApp can tell a sexually explicit story to their children?

Can you post an image of the story? If it is inappropriate for under 18s, send it to the BBC etc who have done stories on problems with Chatbots.

I tried something with the WhatsApp chat that seemed to work. You tell it to give you an answer in 5 words.
So say to it: in 5 words, why can my child receive a sex story from you?

With each answer, keep saying "in just five words" before asking it a new question. Its way more honest that way

Choose a duration (e.g., Always).

Yes I looked on my phone and it seems the only way to mute it is to start a chat with it first 🤷‍♀️
