to find that ChatGPT is saving me tons of time at work?

one2one2 · 16/06/2025 19:02

I have so much more work-life balance now thanks to ChatGPT that is making mincemeat of the mundane parts of the job. It will proof read, put together emails, produce critiques, minutes and actions points, analyse finances all in the matter of seconds and much more.

Work was done by 2pm so I had a lovely afternoon in the sun because all my tasks got completed so quickly.

And no, AI can't take over my job completely as it involves critical face to face interaction and other specialist skills which AI cannot do.

I don’t work but I use Gemini ai every day. Today it’s identified a tree and an object from Facebook. It’s given detailed advice about different trees to plant in my garden with links where to get more info. I also asked it to sum up some medical letters and to provide more info on different types of treatment. I double check things of importance as it suggests I do. I also asked it a quick question about my boiler and for a suggested itinerary for a three night trip to North Wales. I give it loads of info and it comes back with great suggestions.

One of my daughters received a ridiculously flowery email invite to a women in buisness meeting and just for fun I asked Gemini to rewrite it in a shorter and less gushy format and it wrote the perfect email.

I probably used it for a couple of other things that I can’t remember.

I know it doesn’t get everything right but it’s pretty good and when you point out that it’s made a mistake it apologises. I think it’s really useful.

SnobblyBobbly · 16/06/2025 21:43

I use it to make sure I haven’t waffled on too much in my emails. I write them as usual and just use it if I notice I’ve got a bit tangled. I like it, but for sure it’s obvious when it’s overused.

MyrtleLion · 16/06/2025 21:44

one2one2 · 16/06/2025 21:22

Really?

Are you my employer?

And that statement should be amended to:

While AI is writing your emails, your boss is using AI to write your redundancy notice.

Seriously, some jobs will go, but fact-checking jobs will surge and I'm sure it will be a great entry-level job (and an eye-opener) for all those young people who used AI to generate their essays.

LadyLapsang · 16/06/2025 21:44

I’m sure you can get an idea of who is using AI routinely in their work by asking general questions in your internal model about other areas of work. I’m not using it as a Fast Streamer, I would rather give a real person an opportunity to develop their thinking and a career.

one2one2 · 16/06/2025 19:23

Using the paid version. Work is fine with it being used.

I am sure they are. They are no doubt using AI to calculate the saving on your salary when they replace you with it.

Doesn’t it take longer typing it all in ??

It's surprising how many people are missing the point entirely when criticizing AI.

The original poster (OP) has repeatedly stated that she thoroughly checks for errors, verifies facts, and ensures accuracy before sharing anything. Please, take the time to actually read her posts.

It's frustrating to see that AI tools like ChatGPT would have read and analyzed the content multiple times, while some here aren’t even reading it once with care.

I also use AI in my work, and I apply critical thinking to verify everything before making important decisions. It's not about blindly trusting AI — it's about using it responsibly. Let's use our heads before jumping to conclusions.

No-one would disagree with your approach, but a lot of people's motivation seems to be about saving time and personal effort because they just can't be arsed to produce original work, which is, frankly, tragic for the human race.
OP also posted that it produced meeting minutes "beautifully" from a virtual meeting where participants had accents that sometimes even she couldn't understand, yet she's accepted these minutes at face value - how can she be sure they're accurate? I wonder how she would feel if any of the participants came back and said "I didn't say that"?
And no-one's "jumping to conclusions" - we already have numerous recorded cases in England and Wales of legal cases where lawyers have quoted fictitious case law from AI and are being warned they will face prosecution whenever this happens again.
If you think everyone using AI isn't "blindly trusting" it and is "using it responsibly" then you haven't been paying attention - there's already a body of evidence that shows this is precisely what's happening and you could consider yourself an outlier for applying critical thinking to its use.

No. I type badly and quickly sometimes and it fixes everything

Hedjwitch · 16/06/2025 21:47

Tbh I wouldn't even know how to begin to use it,or what I would use it for. I do my job perfectly well without it so I'm just going to carry on using my own brain and delivering as required by my Boss. I don't see how it can fit into my work tbh.

norahbonez · 16/06/2025 21:48

I hate when I get an email that was written by chatgpt. Makes me feel like I'm talking to a computer. And why should I bother replying if you can't be arsed to type an email out to me? Should I also reply using chatgpt? If so, are we all ok with everyone talking to each other via computers (essentially computers talking to each other?).

Twelftytwo · 16/06/2025 21:49

Just today at my work someone said how good they found Co Pilot for checking a legal decision for them, checking case law etc. made me think - shush, you'll do us out of a job! 😆

It makes me feel uncomfortable. Feels like we're on the cusp of big change and can't do anything about it.

2021x · 16/06/2025 21:51

I think its really important to learn how to use it. Gen Alpha will be using it all the time, and you don't want to get caught napping when they come into the workforce.

Or work in an industry were it can't be replaced- care facilities, building, emergency servics etc...

But yeah you are essentially teaching AI how to do your job. If you are working part time, then the company may think that your role can be made part time.

Bansheed · 16/06/2025 21:51

Of course, the work landscape is neing disrupted, and roles will change/adapt. One of the key areas of AI that i am particluary interested in, is preserving and developing critical.thinking. we now have access to so much information and really need to look at school curricula and incorporatingmore focus on hpw to manage data and understand our role 8n applying critical thinking

Killing the planet each time you use it because of the enormous water supply it requires.

You do realise you’re killing the planet posting on MN, or every google search you do? That all takes energy.

AI uses a bit more (but improving), but there’s an argument that if it takes one AI question to get what you need is that actually less energy than multiple google hits?

OK, but so does Word or any other word processing program.

This reads like it’s AI generated.,,

I use copilot and it’s bloody amazing

I type crap and ask for it to be said professionally and wham hello professional

Lonelydave · 16/06/2025 22:04

Jane958 · 16/06/2025 19:08

Seriously?
Did you check everything meticulously?
AI lies and is inaccurate.

Edited

AI cant lie, it will merely misrepresent the data which it has, and produce an incorrect response.

Anothernamechange23gfdd · 16/06/2025 22:04

Glad to announce I tried it in my industry. It knows absolutely nothing 😂 well it thinks it does. But no - it doesn’t.

RedBeech · 16/06/2025 22:06

I've read some hilarious shit spewed up by AI, especially that trial version that is now ahead of Wikipedia in Google searches. The other day I was looking up John Palmer of Brinks Mat fame, after watchung The Gold, to find out which bits were true and which false, and it told me he had been married to a character - not an actress - a character in Home & Away, after his first marriage ended in divorce!

I think letting AI do your job, like letting Grammarly do your editing or spell check do your spelling is only okay if you really don't care about accuracy, precision and nuance. If they don't matter, that's fine. If they do. I'd spend as much time checking and rewriting as I would generating accurate material in the first place.

justasmalltownmum · 16/06/2025 22:06

Chat gpt makes sooo many mistakes in my field. You can 100% tell when someone has used it.

No it wasn't -t was written by moi, I am afraid. Sadly on my phone as I now see that it is typotastic. I was just trying to be helpful and help people understand the concept and see the potential.

Being rude and dismissive does not make you look clever, btw. It just makes you look like you struggle to grasp new concepts. Ps remember the spinning jenny?

Those of us who are cautious about it's proliferation perfectly understand the concept and see its potential and we don't need your help with that, thanks. We also see the inherent risks, which are already being realised so early in its growth, which AI champions seem content to ignore. In short, beware the law of unintended consequences.

Lonelydave · 16/06/2025 22:11

@JustCopyeditorsAnnie ah, the joys of the english language, I've lived abroad extensively, and explaining the humor of the crocodile dentist...
they get it in the end, but the fact that you need context and only bilangue or native speakers can really get the nuonances right - and I'm maths and physics so can't spell, still only really know what verbs and nouns are!
