to find that ChatGPT is saving me tons of time at work?

I have so much more work-life balance now thanks to ChatGPT that is making mincemeat of the mundane parts of the job. It will proof read, put together emails, produce critiques, minutes and actions points, analyse finances all in the matter of seconds and much more.

Work was done by 2pm so I had a lovely afternoon in the sun because all my tasks got completed so quickly.

And no, AI can't take over my job completely as it involves critical face to face interaction and other specialist skills which AI cannot do.

I am mostly failing to get it to save me any time. Could not get chat GPT or copilot to put a pdf in to OneNote or word for me with any sensible formatting, despite 'investing' an hour in prompt honing. Could not get it to produce a sensible draft project timeline laid out in Excel. This should be straightforward. Cannot get sensible meeting minutes when we are using any kind of industry acronyms, internal references, or people on the call with non-us/uk accents.

I have had success with first drafts of company policies & similar.

I have seen some really shit AI CVs and also 'requirements documents' come in from clients, where the client obviously has no clue about what/why is in the doc when we start to discuss it with them.

I am underwhelmed.

Ditto, it has it's uses but I'm yet to see it producing real value for me so far. Like you, I think it might help with policy development or writing reports but I'd never expect anything it produces to not still need significant human input. Meeting notes so far have been pretty bad. I notice lots of recruiters are now explicitly stating that if they see signs applications have been AI generated they'll be thrown out. Some have 'AI' recognition software to spot it.

Some colleagues in legal and fraud where they are processing loads of information (for example emails) for investigations and court cases are saying it's helpful in sifting out the important stuff from the rubbish.

The trade unions are very very twitchy about the 'less jobs' in future issue and it's currently being sold as being more about changing jobs not getting rid of them, and freeing up time for more value added work that only humans can do. The Op using that time to sunbathe won't last long, management will catch on eventually and either give her more work to do or cut her hours to part time!

We have to use Co-pilot, not allowed anything else or it will be a disciplinary as against company policy.

I love AI. I tried Gemini Pro for the first time today and it blew my mind compared to chatgpt.

Really ? What does it do that’s different ? I love chat and I use it to save me time at work. Although I think I could optimise my usage even further tbh. I’m just scratching the surface.

it’s unstoppable. You either learn to leverage it and work out what your value is while using it, or you’ll just be a fool. I am aware it will probably replace me eventually or a big part of what I do. But I’m not going to stop it from doing that, by working against it.

How do you check it isn't making stuff up?

PomeloOud · 16/06/2025 19:55

Isn’t it fabulous? I find I’m using it daily.

one2one2 · 16/06/2025 19:55

noblegiraffe · 16/06/2025 19:42

Then how do you know that it isn't making shit up, and saying people said it, as it has a reputation for doing?

I heard that it now hallucinates 48% of the time when summarising stuff.

I check over everything. At most, I make the odd minor correction.

Dh is self employed and his business is well established...but he recently needed to produce a business plan for a new client relationship. Bit of a box ticking exercise but needed none the less.

He spent 5 minutes on Chat GPT giving an overview of what was needed and his website address for it to pull other info from. It took less than a minute for him to receive a 6 page, reasonably detailed business plan. I spent 20 minutes reading through, re-formatting and editing a few things. And done.

It's bloody good. Really good. As part of the instructions, dh gave an outline of the client and tone needed and it's pitched just right in terms of how formal and detailed it is.

It's the first serious and real world application of AI we've experienced and tbh I was blown away. It turned half a days work (or more) in to 25 minutes and with probably a far better result. Actually quite frightening.

blunlab · 16/06/2025 19:57

I haven’t had any issues of it making stuff up. Sometimes I double check, but rarely. It really depends on your job and what you use it for. For me, it saves me loads of time and it’s fine and hasn’t made any mistakes.

bluebunnyjacket · 16/06/2025 19:58

It's really inaccurate in my line of work (financial reporting)

I do sometimes put an email I've already typed in and ask it to check grammar etc. it's good but even for that I have to read back through and make corrections.

LimesOfBronze · 16/06/2025 20:00

Killing the planet each time you use it because of the enormous water supply it requires.

Cheersmedears123 · 16/06/2025 20:01

We’re introducing AI to save time, but that time has to then be spent taking on more work. I’d love to use it to finish work early. I also read about the environmental impact of AI recently which has put me off using ChatGPT.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 16/06/2025 20:01

Are you advertising for ChatGPT?

Well, if you're cool with AI doing your job, good on you. Not sure what you're asking from this post?

PennywisePoundFoolish · 16/06/2025 20:05

I find it really helpful with my LA/EHCP battles, but it isn't always 100% accurate on legislation for the particular situation. That's the stuff I already know/got from IPSEA so it's fine, and basically helps me stay away from emotional responses.

It did hallucinate with a vanity project I was working on and started promising it could email me. I know that was nonsense, but I had to challenge it several times to admit that. Was quite fascinating

This. It cannot format.

I also graded some work the other week clearly written by AI and those people were told they failed. They spotted the issues (or AI did). But they didn’t apply their knowledge so it was a fail.

It is very positive, but needs more than checking. I know people use it. Often the giveaway is long lists, over American sentences, and no conclusions. You just end up asking them “so what’s the conclusion”.

They don’t know…

LittlleMy · 16/06/2025 20:07

@one2one2 which text translator do you use to obtain your meeting readouts please?

Butchyrestingface · 16/06/2025 20:08

I used it first time ever yesterday morning for a therapy sesh, @one2one2 .

It was so nice, so non-judgemental, so validating. I felt fucking SEEN by ChatGPT.

Bawled like a baby and then had a bag of crisps. 😳😂

If its grammar and spelling checking abilities are anything like its therapeutic abilities, you're in safe hands.

Orangemintcream · 16/06/2025 20:08

At most I might ask it to re word an internal email.

I just don’t have any other wise for it as most of our stuff is situation specific and using spreadsheets that cannot be altered or amended in any way.

missmollygreen · 16/06/2025 19:27

Yea I bet they are!

People sleep walking into making themselves redundant. If AI can save you so much time, do they really need you/need you full time?

Work was done by 2pm so I had a lovely afternoon in the sun because all my tasks got completed so quickly.

incredulous that the OP not only brags about how much time AI is saving, but also brags about taking the afternoon off.

========> redundancy queue this way,

TeenLifeMum · 16/06/2025 20:10

Co pilot made meeting minutes that should have said “we need 40 more desks in the main office” but the AI version replaced desks with deaths… but dramatic and could have been disastrous PR as redundancy processes were under way. I’m less than impressed with the bland generic writing I’ve seen so far.

Treesplease · 16/06/2025 20:10

It’s like having a really good intern. You would check their work too, but if you delegate and supervise properly they will save you a load of time.

(They won’t steal your job either, assuming you are good)

cyvguhb · 16/06/2025 20:12

Maybe you could ask chatgpt to answer your aibu, it either saves you time or it doesn't, how does being reasonable or unreasonable come into it? And how would anyone even know?

TheOGBethDuttton · 16/06/2025 20:14

TwinkleToes2222 · 16/06/2025 19:37

People have started sending me emails that were clearly written by AI. I delete them unread. I wish they would just send me the information that they typed into the AI and save me the hassle of reading the long version.

Yup. This post is like some weird humble-brag. I don't read crap that is clearly AI generated, if someone wants to work with our business, they can make an effort and prove their worth. If they can't manage that, face to face probably isn't worth the time.

We don’t know it isn’t Chat GPT talking to us… creepy really

TheOGBethDuttton · 16/06/2025 20:17

Correction, she brags about a computer doing her job for her, while not working contracting hours. And is proud of it. Yikes.
