It wasn’t good.

2dogsandabudgie · 16/06/2025 10:48

I agree. She didn't have a clue what she was talking about. So unprepared. Embarrassing for her.

Fluffyholeysocks · 16/06/2025 10:51

I think it's indicative of the quality of candidates for posts in the current Labour Government. I don't think Lammy is a good FS, Rayner a good deputy PM or Reeves a good Chancellor. There's not a deep pool of talent to choose from.

Ihateboris · 16/06/2025 11:06

You'd think she'd have prepared.. especially when being interviewed by Nick Ferrari

It was embarrassing- she was so unprepared and defensive. Then bad tempered and argumentative. I really don’t know why she was getting snippy when the fact is that she is the one who was unprepared.

This type of car crash interview was indicative of the current woeful approach by politicians-they seem to be given one pager ‘preppers’ with sound bites that they mustn’t deviate from- I really find it irritating as they cannot just answer a question or admit they don’t know something. It’s really damaging in so far as eroding public trust in their capability and integrity.

They all struggle with a scripted page of lines and not much else.

Ihateboris · 16/06/2025 11:23

I just don't understand why they agree to be interviewed when, most of the time, they either can't or won't answer a question, and simply deviate. Exactly the same in PMQs. What's the point? It really boils my blood!

So many MPs are like this. They think that because they have been elected they are special.
It's like students who bought a textbook but never get round to reading it.

whatdoidonowffs · 16/06/2025 18:23

Why do they not prepare for these interviews ?
I remember after Covid Nick Ferrari used to ask every politician on his show how many people were back at their desks, not one could answer him even though it was a standard question !!! Wouldn’t take much to have found the answer out and look on top of your job

LlynTegid · 16/06/2025 18:25

Surely not as bad as when Chloe Smith was sent on Newsnight by Gideon Osborne to face Jeremy Paxman? Or was it?

‘Ben Swain, thank you’.

This is labour’s calibre for you. Most of them have never had real jobs in their lives. They were either activists or worked in friends or relatives charities.

Rachel from accounts who plagiarized other people’s work, lied on her cv and allegedly was fiddling expenses at a bank.

Angela Rayner who comes across as she’s about to start scrapping on a drunken night out any minute.

David Lamey, when he speaks, you can literally hear the cogs moving.

Bridget Philipson, a character that only her own mother would employ her.

The business secretary, who apparently lied about being a solicitor, but has about as many legal qualifications as your pet cat.

These people are totally useless, incompetent, you wouldn’t even pay them to bag carriers, let alone run government.

And as though the incompetence wasn’t bad enough, most of them are corrupt nasties too.

Carrying on last government’s legacy in true form.

Ha ha ha ha 😂...that's a perfect description of Angela Rayner. Spot on 😄

That was painful watching, but having had the misfortune of meeting her several times, I am not suprised.
It is thoroughly depressing though, that these people who seem to have no clue, and not many manners, are running our country (into the ground).

IwasDueANameChange · 16/06/2025 20:22

Unfortunately, in the context of wages for highly skilled London based roles, MP salaries are low. So highly experienced, capable professionals in law, finance, economics etc, will be making at least double what an MP does.

This means it can't attract many of the very brightest and best, the Conservatives often rely on people from very wealthy backgrounds.

runningpram · 16/06/2025 20:33

They get v little time to prepare - although they should know basic facts. I do wonder how I would fare in these
situations at times - on a day when I’ve got pmt and brain fog I would really struggle - not saying this is what happened here.

IwasDueANameChange · 16/06/2025 20:35

Not to mention - right now its a horror story of a job, trying to run a country with no money and reaping the non existent crop that follows decades of underinvestment. a mental health crisis and huge benefit bill. A divided economy with London a microcosm of wealth and affluence while other cities limp along. Whoever does it can't win

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 16/06/2025 20:43

He asked a very specific question, trying to trip her up, her brief didn’t cover it. It’s not indicative of her capability as a minister.

Greenartywitch · 16/06/2025 20:47

I was listening to it live and she was awful!

Even if she did not know all the details, as a politician she should have enough wit and training to deflect it, instead she came across as a train-wreck.

Most of our politicians it seems are low quality and don't have a clue about their brief.

FrankyGoesToBollywood · 16/06/2025 20:49

It makes me quite angry. These people hold so much power and they disrespect their positions.

FrankyGoesToBollywood · 16/06/2025 20:50

@runningpramwhat a misogynistic trope. There are countless women who don’t fuck up at work because of PMT.

Jennps · 16/06/2025 20:51

Between this idiot, Rachel from accounts and Darren ‘the clown’ Jones, the treasury and this country’s finances are f’d.

Honestly where do these find these morons to appoint them. It’s like you need a special qualification to be a thicko to find your way into government

Not disagreeing with you on most of it. However, Emma Reynolds has held “proper” jobs.

@runningpramwhat a misogynistic trope. There are countless women who don’t fuck up at work because of PMT.

Where did I say ALL women f up from having PMT? I was reflecting on my own experience and yes - for me on some days hormones have made things more
difficult than others. That doesn’t mean I’m not competent overall though, or just as good as a man at my job. I just find ways of coping or getting round the disadvantage.
PS if you want a misogynistic trope take a look at ‘Rachel from accounts’ levied at the first female chancellor with a economics degree from Oxford and from an ordinary background.

HRTQueen · 16/06/2025 22:00

ER was very poorly prepared

the launch is this week ffs and she is out and about promoting it she wasn’t on his sHiw to talk about the weather lots very unprofessional

I though NF was quite soft on her

have to agree Labour have been poor so stand out minister and mp’s (I think this is across the house a decline in the last 20 years) . The only people that I am remotely impressed by in the cabinet are Yvette Cooper and Wes Streeting

the opposition is certainly just as bad but the LIbDems I have been more impressed by

Labour really need to step up their act. Ministers must know their subject know the numbers involved. Darren Jones on Question Time last week looked completely out of his depth
