Naked bike ride

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 15/06/2025 19:09

Was in London yesterday: naked bike ride. Fine.. not my thing (or many other women). They finished the ride/protest/whatvever and then conjugated near B palace.. and just seemed to be happy wafting their micro penis’s about for kicks and giggles/

A lot of horrid middle aged naked men kicking about just felt unnecessary.

and 🤮

how the hell would you know?

I've taken part in it many times, always for body positivity. not to cause offence, but to get people (esp teenage girls) thinking differently about how you can love your body no matter what it looks like.

Well done! 👏

What a nasty post.

TBH I’m more bothered by the inability to spell ‘penises’ than by the prudery.

Genuine question - what proportion of the reason for you doing the ride is about oil/cyclists rights etc etc? if any

I’m trying to work out if there’s actually any coherence in what they’re protesting against

DoctorRoseReturns · 17/06/2025 10:38

MauriceTheMussel · 17/06/2025 09:28

No, you misunderstand a lot of dissenters on this thread. It’s not we don’t want to stare or have prolonged visuals. We don’t want to see it at all.

And, regardless, do you know how long it takes for the parade of cyclists to pass? Especially if there’s a red light? And they’re all whopping and blowing horns? We’re just supposed to stop still and stare at the floor?!

Also, this ride isn’t easy to avoid. I’ve lived in Central London for nearly 20 years. There aren’t huge signs. There’s no warning klaxon. People also cycle naked to and from the meeting points so you might be out of the way and see an arse crack etc at some random junction.

You can see ass crack just walking along the road on a fully clothed person...

There's lots of things I don't "want to see" (funnily enough, penises are one of them) but I am an adult and understand the concept of "Oh whoops saw something I didn't like, I'll look away and stop staring".

It's London. It's not like they're in a closed in alleyway with them directly in front of you, you turn away and look across the Thames or move down a side street or hop on The Underground to avoid walking through that bit depending where you see them.

grumpygrape · 17/06/2025 10:39

For those quoting the vote statistics. The premise of the vote was concerning middle aged men wafting their penises about for kicks.

I was aware that the event in question was nothing to do with middle aged men wafting their penises about for kicks.

So, I think the OP was being unreasonable for posting a vote which didn’t reflect the event correctly.

And I still think builders bum on someone is anti social.

I don’t think you live in Central London. The ride blocks an entire side of the road. There aren’t easy escape route on a crowded street.

What do you want me to do at a junction? Turn my car around. Shut my eyes with my hands on the steering wheel?!

LoveSandbanks · 17/06/2025 10:50

Shesellsseashellsnotinmystreet · 15/06/2025 21:03

If the bikes were hired I hope someone had some antibacterial spray......

There just isn’t enough 🤮 emoticons on the internet for this comment!

Ive got nothing against a bit of naturism if that’s your thing but I a bike saddle, naked? I can’t imagine it would be remotely comfortable

Moonmelodies · 17/06/2025 11:26

If it's true they are mostly micropenises then perhaps they think they are less offensive or intimidating than a proper one?

SupportivePantsAndHusband · 17/06/2025 11:31

Inconspicuous 😅

You can still look elsewhere than staring at a cock smushed against a bike seat though

grumpygrape · 17/06/2025 12:18

I thought my eyesight was pretty good but all these people with penis seeking vision leave me standing.

Why would anyone driving even notice a micro-penis ? Yes, notice that one or all of a group of cyclists were naked but to hone in on the genitals while concentrating on driving ?

swimsong · 17/06/2025 14:26

AnnaBalfour · 15/06/2025 21:13

They are not doing it for body positivity at all.

It was done to shock, cause offence and because they think they’re being edgy

How can you know all this?

swimsong · 17/06/2025 14:30

TheScentOfElonMusk · 16/06/2025 19:12

You're misunderstanding. I'm advocating for taking the thought element out of it entirely.

The action would be the thing that breaks the law. Like driving without insurance. Doesn't matter whether you intended to or not. Doesn't even matter if you knew you were doing it at the time. The crime is that you did.

That way, you can be in public and think about how sexy it would be to be naked on a bike in front of everyone as much as you like. Fantasise away. Wank about it at home later. But just don't do it.

You'd have to put a lot of effort in to see that bike ride as being in any way sexual.

Longtimelurkerfinallyposts · 17/06/2025 14:38

I would class myself as an environmentalist campaigner as well as a feminist one. So yes, for me part of the point of the ride is also about countering car culture/ the oil industry, and promoting the joy of cycling!

(and highlighting the vulnerability of cyclists - as whatever they wear, they're likely to come off worse in a collision than someone in a heavy metal box - and reclaiming space for us to ride safely together en masse).

Not sure how to assign a % to each of those reasons.

I also took part in Critical Mass regularly for many years when I lived in London (a monthly mass ride, a bit like the annual naked ride but done in clothes, and with more people on skateboards/ roller blades etc joining in nowadays), for similar reasons (bar the body positivity).

I’m sure everyone voting got the jist.

It might be time to recognise that we are a ‘clothed society’, (not like some obscure Amazonian tribe where women get their breasts out like that the other super pro penis guy, ‘Rose’ on this thread compared us to) and therefore the vast majority of people not only want to remain clothed but would prefer everyone else to stay clothed and not to get their knackers out in public. It’s a small ask.

Uh ? If they voted on the gist of the OP which was was middle aged men wafting their penises about for kicks then they were misinformed about the event. The OP went on to claim the penises were micro. Can anyone waft (wave?) a micro-penis ?

You are quite right that most people chose to be clothed most of the time but that doesn’t mean everyone has to or that it must be illegal not to.

As I said previously, if you object so strongly to the current laws why don’t you campaign to get them changed rather than waste your time here ? I understand you can start with an online petition.

I'm not pro penis, I'm pro people being able to exercise their legal rights

I'm also not a man

And frankly you're comment about "obscure Amazonian tribe" comes across a little racist. As well as being incorrect in that it's not just "obscure tribes" but places in Europe and Africa as well

I love how some of you are shouting but it's legal. I don't see any people walking around naked because most people have dignity and would think it would be weird. They would also get the piss took out of them. I also think if people did it a lot in front of children a lot of parents would kick off. So I think most naturists would be scared of getting their kit off.

It shouldn't be legal though. Why are you in favour of something that is weird only because it's not illegal. It could be in a few years, who knows.

Noodledog · 17/06/2025 22:21

I'm not shouting, but the fact is, it is legal. What part of it is legal do you not understand? You might not like it but that doesn't change the fact.
There really doesn't seem to be any point trying to discuss this any more.

I've explained several times why "this should be illegal because some people don't like it" is problematic

For those who are naturists, it's not weird

Are you thick? Just because it's legal doesn't mean a lot of people think it's minging. So yes, crack on but it's odd.
