Sainsbury’s opened in my home town in the summer of 1984. This over the next few years brought a huge amount of changes to high street shopping areas nearby - butchers etc .. apparently. Anyway that’s perhaps the subject of a different thread!

I was a primary school kid at this time and I still laugh at my Dad shouting at me when he eager to get to this new phenomenon- Sainsbury’s

”I want to go to Salisburys!” and when I misbehaved his agitation kept increasing -

“cmon I want to go to Salisbury’s!!!!”

This gave me and a friend a great laugh years later. But I suppose you’d have to know my Dad to find it truly funny.

Pointless thread really but if it makes one person laugh ..and I’ve just realised it’s Father’s Day tomorrow

I was enthralled when a shop selling everything for 50p arrived in my town in the early 80s! I remember buying a china horse ornament and thinking it bargain of the century!

It had pride of place in my bedroom window for several years! I didn't even especially like horses 😂

When I was 8, a Waitrose was opened on my road, on my birthday. It felt like a personal present.
