Aibu to check the weather forecast before packing for a weekend away?

Something that literally everyone does, surely?

daff0di1 · 12/06/2025 23:21

Absolutely, who doesn't?? I check it every morning

staceyflack · 12/06/2025 23:37

Thanks ... I thought so. My husband, who is a grumpy old bastard sometimes, thinks I'm overthinking it.😤

Nah, it's full of shit. Just take a selection of different stuff.

TheChosenTwo · 12/06/2025 23:42

If you’re going away in the U.K. I’d think it was more unreasonable to not check.
It’s hardly an arduous lengthy task to look!

staceyflack · 12/06/2025 23:43

Yeah, but that means carrying loads of shit I won't need. It's usually a bit accurate.

How far are you carrying the shit?

I'm also going away this weekend and don't need to look at the weather. UK Spring/Summer so it could be wet or dry and a temperature ranging from a bit chilly to fairly warm. Quite likely all of those.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 13/06/2025 00:46

Are you packing for him? Don’t. Check the weather and pack for you.

5foot5 · 13/06/2025 00:48

Weather forecasts these days tend to be fairly reliable so of course you check

Painrelief · 13/06/2025 00:53

I would normally always check the weather . But one time we were caught out when we went to a concert in an open roof stadium and I didn’t think too . I think life was really stressful and it was a pack and go situation and on the way down I happened to look … rain from 3pm … oh shit I didn’t bring a coat Nah it will be ok ….
rain starts bang on 3pm as we were sat in spoons and it hammered it down . We got to the concert and the sky was every colour you can imagine . The people we went to see were absolutely soaked throughout with us . We got back to the hotel and I was froze and the hotel had no heating on coz it was June just some blow heater above your head you could switch on . I was trying to dry my clothes flapping them in the air 🤣

I learnt my lesson and now always check the weather for days beforehand.

Buxusmortus · 13/06/2025 01:22

You'd be mad not to check.

staceyflack · 14/06/2025 00:22

Thanks folks. I figured it was him, not me. It poured down earlier... he hasn't got a raincoat 🤣

I see what you’re saying @Ablondiebutagoodybut surely you’d check the forecast and if it’s showing boiling all weekend, 0% chance of rain, you’d pack for those conditions, and maybe pop a light rain coat in just in case? Whereas if it were saying it was actually going to be quite cool and rain/wind you’d pack for that, but potentially go for layers in the event it was warmer and drier than forecast?

the weather forecast these days does tend to be fairly accurate when you see it’s several days of the same weather - it’s when it’s changing every few hours or different daily that it tends to not be as accurate and so you’d pack a bit more cautiously.

OP I’m with you - I’d check!

Swannsee · 14/06/2025 02:32

I really want to understand why you would be unreasonable to do so?
