Sick of creepy colleagues

Anyone else struggle to avoid absolute creeps at work? They seem to follow me between jobs I’m sure.

I have only been in my current role for two months and so far, from separate colleagues:

-I have been asked about my toilet habits when at work
-Someone I’ve barley spoken to described my outfit that day as ‘sexy secretary’
-A creepy older man asked if my girls weekend
abroad was a ‘pulling’ holiday
-Today, and what prompted me to write this; each morning on the daily call there’s a ‘game’ (urgh) where you pick a number between 1-100 and get asked a question. I was asked my favourite number and before I could answer someone shouted out ‘69’

Give me strength please!!

Ugh. I feel for you. Is it the industry that you are in? It feels like an absurd amount of bad luck to have this type of behavior follow you from job to job.

It can attract a certain type (of male) unfortunately, but I’ve not known it this bad!

I’m in a male dominated industry (IT) no way would that be ok. Are you comfortable with addressing it or at least biting back with a witty put down?

UghFletcher · 12/06/2025 17:53

Ugh, do you work in sales by any chance or a recruitment agency?

I find that asking them to repeat that joke as I didn’t get it or saying I’m surprised you’re comfortable saying that kind of thing out loud, followed by a blank stare usually gets them to shut up.

I'd be following up on that last example with a complaint, to be 'informally' resolved by an apology to you and to the whole group that was in the meeting.

@UghFletcher is right. * * I also tend to repeat back what they said as if I've misheard or misunderstood or am so flabbergasted I need to check. It makes them very flustered.

I then follow up with a suggestion that they might need to reconsider in future as "someone else less tolerant than me could really take offence at that and you wouldn't want to have a formal complaint would you?". Sweet smile and walk off.

So for example
"John, I didn't catch that, what did you say [He mumbles something about toilets] Toilets? Can you say that again as I'm really failing to understand you. [He's now regretting this and mumbles something vague whilst backing away]. Seriously, why on earth would you say that, its so weird"

"Sexy Secretary? Geez, Fred you are sailing very close to the sexual harassment wind there, don't do that again."

"Excuse me, did I hear that correctly, you just said 69? I didn't hear that? Ok so you said '69' - was that meant to be funny? I see... silence .... tumbleweeds.......

You have to confront this shit or they keep doing it. Alternatively just lodge a grievance and go that route. I work in HR and would happily help you stamp on creepy guys.

Screamingabdabz · 12/06/2025 18:35

Most corporate professional companies would not tolerate this op and neither should you. I would get my phone out and ask them to say it on camera next time. “For evidence.”

coxesorangepippin · 12/06/2025 18:56

Toilet habits? Wtf

I'd be searching for something else

NoSoupForU · 12/06/2025 18:58

I work in an incredibly male dominated industry and no way would this be ok where I work.

Have you reported any of it?

LlynTegid · 12/06/2025 19:00

Agree unacceptable and I assume you are under 45 or this would not happen.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/06/2025 19:26

are you experiencing time slips anywhere else in life Shock

because this sounds like work 35 years ago when I started ! wtf 🤬
