Has David Walliams finally wrecked what was left of his career?

He was part of the taping of the xmas special of WILTY yesterday and did a Nazi salute twice, as "comedy"

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvg59q1xgv8o

At least the show immediately told him that it was utterly unacceptable and the BBC and production have also condemed him immediately, rather than this coming to light in a few years time.

Combined with this and also being booted off BGT for the way he spoke to contestants, surely there's no way back for him now on telly?

The children's author and comedian made the gestures during a recording of Would I Lie To You?

Little Britain was a fantastic comedy programme ruined by dull, humourless virtue signallers.

A world without comedy is somewhat drab however that is unfortunately what some prefer.

Not a fan of his on BGT nor does my son have any interest in his books however they're very popular in our school library etc

BUT I was a massive Little Britain fan & I won't apologize for it

No one has actually laid out the details, but to be honest, libel laws are a thing.

People make these atrocious claims 🙄

There’s a thread about him on Tattle, they are much more outspoken on there.

Allo Allo was a comedy set in the time of the Nazi occupation of France so the occasional Nazi salute is acceptable, just as it is in fllms about WW11.. Just flinging your arm in the air a la Adolph is rightly considered deeply offensive and I think it is a crime in Germany. Context is everything

And they also mocked it - was it Von Smallhausen who used to raise hand like a Cub Scout and say “‘Tler”?

And it’s still the same as here…

They just like to dump on him and things get deleted.

I wasn't alive during World War 2.

Basic general knowledge.

Justwrong68 · 12/06/2025 14:31

I agree his comedy is dodgy in places but some is so prescient like the only gay in the village, mirroring histrionic personality disorder, you didn’t get that kind of insight with Benny hill

Hoolahoophop · 12/06/2025 14:34

@BigFatBully You don't know what a Nazi Salute is, but you know what action should be taken against someone who does one? Surely that is not what they taught you in your management studies.

Hopefully. He's been vile for many years, goodness knows how he kept getting such high profile jobs for so long.

Because he knows certain people and he talks posh that is why.

BigFatBully · 12/06/2025 14:35

Interesting podcast, thanks to whomever shared it up thread.

There are many people in showbusiness who are and I quote from the podcast "nasty pieces of work".

Some of them that I have heard rumoured to be so are:
*James Corden
Sarah Hadland
Martin Clunes
Madonna - Who famously told a fan asking for an autograph to "buy a ticket m
f
**"

Celebrities are people. There will be nice celebrities and nasty ones. People shouldn't lose their job just because they aren't nice people. I'd rather a celebrity be open about who they are than to feign being kind and compassionate, as Holly Willoughby did and obviously it came out that she was *allegedly rather rude and arrogant off screen.

Little Britain is a great comedy, as is Come Fly With Me. I have the DVDs at home and have watched them over and over again and never seen any content that I found to be an attack on a member of society, or an inference that all members of society conform to stereotypes. It is what it is, just good humour. I'm not a fan of his co-star Matt Lucas, he was a big coronavirus agenda pusher but I respect Lucas's work on Little Britain.

LOL i loved that show as a kid.

I thought it was the one who when general von klinkeroffen said heil hitler the one played by sam kelly said klop.

There's a reason he's been largely dropped from everything.

He's a creep. Those awful stetches take the mick out of disabled people.

I saw them more as taking the mick out of the way people patronise disabled people, but there we go……

Dontlletmedownbruce · 12/06/2025 14:39

People conveniently forget Little Britain poked fun at racist British people, especially those who act polite but with underlying racist views. It held a mirror up to certain types of people in society. Marjorie Daw at Fat fighters mishearing everything the Indian woman says as 'curry', the posh woman at the county fair who would vomit when she ate something made by black person. They were not intended to be racist per se, but ridiculing racists.

I also don't think Lou and Andy poked fun at disabled people but at the idea that able bodied people talk to wheelchair users like they do children, and often make assumptions that they have the same 'nice' personality. It was quite refreshing to see a wheelchair user who was a dickhead on screen. The same point was made by the Inbetweeners.

Ah, that’s sounds more like it! It’s been so long since I’ve seen it. I love Croft & Perry shows!

It Ain’t Half Hot Mum would not get made today either!

This. I can't see why he has had the exposure he has. He's repulsive, talentless and endlessly trying to push his luck trying to be edgy but not realising he's just awful.

Jonathon Ross was back on the BCC presenting CIN so I guess Williams will be there for a bit longer

His kids books are truly dreadful. Someone bought one for DD and reading it to her at bedtime was like pulling teeth.

We got a set of them. It mysteriously disappeared after we slogged through part of the first and abandoned it as it was hideously cruel about overweight children.

What is a “virtue signaller” and how did they ruin Little Britain?

Have you been to school, read a book or watched TV since you have been alive?

rosemarble · 12/06/2025 14:55

I haven't liked him since Little Britain's 'bitty". It was reinforced by how he portrays people who receive benefits or are overweight in one or more of his books. My son read them ages ago and I can't remember them now, but I do remember thinking how awful they were.

I think he’s pretty funny. You never know what’s going to come out of his mouth, and I’m sure that half of those saying that he is repulsive and talentless weren’t saying that when he was on Little Britain.

I read his biography, and I think he is incredibly lonely behind what you see in the public eye. I’m sure there are things that people wouldn’t like about us either….
