Which is cotton, knee length, or just below, v neck, not too floral, straight down, comfortable, good for holidays. Does such an item exist. Also not above £50! Sleeves and pockets would be good too!

When you say straight down, are you talking about the cut? I'm not quite sure whether you mean body con style or just not flared out!

Uniqlo

Popsy (search cotton dresses, a lot of them aren't. I got four in my results, but they fulfill the 'plain brief')

Apricot might have something that suits.

M&S have one style matching all your criteria - although it's floral, the print's small enough not to look like flowers!

Comes up large.

I have the M and S dress GarlicMile has cited above - I’m not at all sure it’s what you’re looking for, as it has a full skirt and is longer than knee length or just below. M and S have a linen rich popover v neck midi dress available in red (sleeves but no pockets) that is just straight up and down (£39.50), or for a holiday dress, they have a pure cotton v-neck kaftan beach dress with navy trim (£45).

Seasalt but prob over £50

curious79 · 11/06/2025 06:45

John Lewis have some quite nice ones in their own range, and also accessories monsoon.

GarlicMile · 11/06/2025 06:52

£40, £54 & £59 (sorry) at Joules.

If it is for a holiday, I reckon sesquipedalian's right about looking for a kaftan dress.

I’ve been wearing dresses for about 15 years I don’t like trousers. However this year I have concluded that the majority of summer dresses are just floral and mumsy. It’s better in winter when you can add boots, jackets, cardigans to give them a bit of spice. I’ve opted for the wide leg trouser, vest top and lightweight open shirt.

FatFace have a dress called Simone which comes in many different patterns, and two lengths, regular and long. Pockets, short sleeves, very comfortable and a nice shape when on.
