DS, a first year paramedic student, needs driving lessons. Last summer, after finishing his A Levels , he was not bothered much and I booked a few lessons to motivate him to apply and prepare for an exam. I found a good prominent driving school, and the instructor was lovely and helpful. He said he would book an exam himself, but the next available exam would be in 6 months time. DS enjoyed driving immensely but was not proactive, was reluctant to learn theory, and put it on hold after a few lessons.
A year later he is more mature and motivated, passed his theory test and is keen to prepare for a practical test. He understands that his next placement might be far away and he also.listens to his older fellow students who have been driving for a number of years and talked some sense into DS.
DS contacted the same instructor who booked and cancelled two lessons , two weeks apart. The last one was supposed to be on Sunday morning, and he cancelled half ah hour before the start. I have read his text (with DS' permission) and I have a feeling that the instructor is not keen to continue with DS. For whatever reason.
I have been looking for another reputable instructor, but there are waiting lists or rejections. I don't feel like contacting big nationwide companies as there is no guarantee they will give DS their best instructors. Also, the fees they charge are a lot higher.
I am losing my drive searching for our perfect instructor.
It would be easier to go with the flow and stay with the current one, who is known at the paramedic science department as a good and reliable tutor.
But my gut feeling is that nothing will come out of this. If I write to him, it will have a negative impact on the rapport with DS who likes him. DS trusts me and is happy to go ahead with whoever I choose.
AIBU looking for a new instructor?
Many thanks.
