AIBU to think that this kind of unrest/attack is happening more frequently now? Or did I just not notice before?

NBU - Yes, it's more frequent
ABU - You didn't notice before

I think you are right, a lot of people do share this view and it should not necessarily be defined as “right wing” or “extremist”.

We have enough British/Irish sexual predators without importing anymore. If we had the chance to send British/Irish sexual predators somewhere else we would. But we can’t. Where we are able to send recent immigrant sexual predators back to their country of origin after they have served their sentences we should do so.

But what we cannot have is a conversation in which foreign nationals are automatically condemned for alleged crimes in advance of the court process, while we reserve judgement on “OUR fine upstanding” British/Irish lads until the court process has ended. And so often that process as reported is one in which which “OUR fine upstanding” lads are given the benefit of the doubt and in which their victims are condemned as trouble makers. And that view often prevails even when the details of what they did are available for all to see.

There is a clear, racist, double standard at play. And while it may be true that young men from some countries are more likely to commit sexual crimes than men from other backgrounds we should not loose sight of the fact that only a small number of men from those countries commit this kind of crime.

People in the UK and Ireland are entitled to due process - not judgement by a lynch mob of violent thugs.

I agree with everything you say. The riots and violence are abhorrent and any right minded person would agree, whilst possibly simultaneously thinking that this is what happens when government doesn’t listen. The government need to listen to sections of the electorate that they’d perhaps previously presumed supported their policy.

NI is the most racist place I’ve ever been. A few years ago there was a lovely Nigerian family who thought they’d be fine there as they were on no side of the “divide”, but they got ran out of their home deliberately and systematically with attack after attack. Literally like something from the dark ages. I’ve found racist language to be completely normalised there.

In the weeks leading up to these riots, social media has been rife with plans and encouragement to attack those from other countries, so these riots seemed completely predictable once they had an “excuse”.

Well, maybe the checks aren't up to scratch.

There's an awful lot of foreigners getting away with petty crime in my area; this would be happening far less if we had more robust immigration and deportation policies.

Deportation is for a crime with 12 months or over. I'm afraid the state of the country is such that the police no longer bother with petty crime. We do check criminal records during the visa process.

As always, the minority ruin the reputation of many. Northern Ireland is not racist. The people who are, are a small percentage but seem to have the loudest voices.

In regards to the violence you see, its a knock on effect from the Troubles. The minority believe the only way to stand up for what they think is right, is to riot and attack people.

Most people in NI are not racist, and just want to live in peace.

Listen to what?

At this time of the year loyalist thugs burn out anyone who isn't people like us and destroy their own towns. Marking their territory with extreme violence. It's what they do. They've been doing it for decades, immigrants or no immigrants.

Anyone thinking this has anything to do with protecting women and girls needs their heads read.Hmm

Yabu in that riots have happened for generations. Plenty of people not that old will remember the riots in London in the 80s for eg. Problem is that people have had enough of enforced, unfettered migration and the melding of cultures so fundamentally different.

And burning people alive and throwing petrol bombs is the answer? We had similar riots last year, no need to hark to the 80s.

Exactly, where were the riots for Jeffrey Donaldson?

deeahgwitch · 12/06/2025 10:57

“………Were there riots in response to the Ulster rugby players rape trial? Bet she was “a stupid girl making trouble for the lads”……………..”

A good point @BridgetofKildare

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/06/2025 10:58

Nobody offered to write off teenage drug debts if they attacked Jeffrey.

Other people made homeless by loyalist thugs recently.Angry

For all the people posting from the UK who clearly have never been and have no understanding of NI, it’s June.
That means these loyalist thugs would be rioting right now regardless of the reason.
The reason is a convent excuse.

If anyone needs proof the former DUP leader has been accused of child sexual abuse by his own daughter and his niece. The community did not particularly condem this or make any noise that a “respected” political figure is a child predator.

I read a disgusting story in the news yesterday. A young lady travelling on a busy tram, something wet dripped on her leg, the mam behind her had jacked off all over her skirt, these news stories of sexual assaults are increasing as much as we're denying them, he will return to the Ipas accommodation centre when released from prison in 6 months time.

Is it because it is marching season @sofiewoo, or is there some other reason?

ColadhSamh · 12/06/2025 12:03

The people who were burnt or intimidated out of their homes were temporarily housed in the leisure centre in Larne. This information was posted on social media by Gordon Lyons, DUP and Communities Minister on his social media. This resulted on further attacks on already traumatised people. Absolutely disgusting from Lyons. Who votes for and endorses people like him. He claims he was trying to defuse the situation by identifying where people were being sheltered 😲. He should resign immediately.

This person had already received refugee status , they therefore couldn’t live at an IPAS Center. They actually worked at one as a security guard (which they won’t be able to do after this charge)

It’s an awful story already so I’m not sure why you are changing details.

If he had not received refugee status already - the accusation alone , even without a conviction would impact his claim.

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/06/2025 12:19

Gordon Lyons is a fucking disgrace! Having Robinson needs to do something about him.

Here we are at the mouth if the summer holidays and the people of Larne have lost their leisure centre due to loyalist thuggery. As if their lives weren't bad enough.

I'm 🤯🤯🤯 at Mnetters excusing or justifying this with politicians just need to listen. Ignoring the fact the same people would burn them out of their homes for looking at them squinty.

Where’s your evidence that sexual assault is increasing? Ireland has a long and disgusting history sexually abusing women and children.

And boys. Don't underestimate the damage done by the officially sanctioned use of vulnerable children to provide British intelligence agencies with blackmail fodder at Kincora. The rage and violence in response to being treated that way spilled over whole communities for generations - no bother to the people in London who planned it.

Which is why I said children, who have been disrespected and abused culturally in Ireland for decades and hardly anyone blinked.
Boys and girls sexually abused, babies buried enmass in unmarked graves, babies sold to couples outside of Ireland. I mean the list goes on, and people have the nerve to claim this is an imported problem.

DeanElderberry · 12/06/2025 12:38

While insisting on changes in the law to facilitate the purchase of babies born to women outside of Ireland.

I agree with you btw, in case there's any doubt.

Yes, by all means let's look at all the things that have gone wrong in the extreme north-east, but it would be nice if official respectable 26-counties Ireland took a look at itself sometimes. And not blaming everything on 'the church' as though it was an organisation run by aliens.

That's true Ireland has a long history, however that doesn't excuse the recent upsurge in sexual assaults. Ireland is tiny, my nieces friend, her rapist tried alcohol for the first time and was overwhelmed by the ladies, thankfully he was prosecuted, she was yards from home.
I read the news daily, yes, there is many sexual assaults carried on by FT residents too.
It is a minority I understand that.
The murder on St Annes Street dublin, the man was stabbed to death, the murderer and victim both seeking internal protection, both previously arrested for rape un Europe, the knife man was on bail for previous violence involving knife in Ireland.

You keep pushing the line that immigrants and refugees are responsible for sexual assaults.

Some immigrants and refugees are - and they should be dealt with in accordance with the law. That may include deportation after they have served their sentence. Most people would have no issue with this. But do not forget that the vast majority of men from these countries do not commit sexual crimes.

But I wonder whether you are as active condemning “our own” for alleged sexual assaults against women and girls? Can you point us to your posts on the Ulster rugby players trial? Or was that different?
