Emergency medication for immigrant

Not me but someone I know.

She is in a Women's Aid refuge and comes from another part of the world. Can't leave the country because her child's father is here. Her immigration status is pending.

She takes Sertraline and has been prescribed these on a temporary basis. I think there's a time limit to how long surgeries can help on a temporary basis though and she's running out of tablets with no sign of the status coming through.

I've read through the website but nothing seems to apply here. Basically I think the problem is the status isn't supposed to take this long so there's no provision for a situation that shouldn't be happening.

But it feels like the last straw. The surgery is as helpful as a chocolate teapot. She can't come off these - she has a baby with her 24/7 and no down time.

Thank you

That's awful, she needs the medication and should be able to access it! Not sure of the law around this but could someone help her to call 111 and speak to a doctor? She might be able to get a prescription from out of hours?

I don't think you've given us enough information to go on. This is the government advice:

My best suggestion is ask PALS or an immigration advice service for people from her home country.

NHS entitlements: migrant health guide

Has she applied for the special migrants victims of domestic abuse concession. Woman's aid should help with the application, if not try a specialist by and for service, imkaan can signpost to her nearest service.
