Just eaten uncooked chicken at a restaurant, chances of getting sick? So nervous!

Just gone for dinner and noticed a third of a way through my chicken burger that it was raw in middle. The restaurant took my number and filed a report.

im so afraid of getting food poisoning, is there a chance I won’t? I did eat a fair ish amount of it as I noticed it tasted fleshy after a few bites.

Yes, there is a chance you won't get food poisoning, fingers crossed the chicken was free of pathogens.

bloodredfeaturewall · 07/06/2025 17:53

the risk is still low and I really hope that you will not get ill.
glad to hear that the restaurant reacted sensibly.

Littletreefrog · 07/06/2025 17:53

The edges were probably more cooked than the middle so you may get away with it.

Cooking chicken properly kills bugs on raw chicken, but not all raw chicken has bugs. So yes, there’s a chance that you’ll be fine.

I hope they did more than just take your number!!

smarSarah · 07/06/2025 20:38

@londongirl12 they apologised and didn’t charge for the meal but we’d barely eaten it anyway 😅

Op please report this to environmental health! Don't leave it to the restaurant,eh can go in and do their own checks.

Honestly, don’t worry too much. It’s not ideal but it’s not a given that you’ll get food poisoning - I’ve inadvertently eaten undercooked chicken several times and never been ill from it.

You'd be very unlucky if it gave you food poisoning. Our stomachs are extremely good at neutralising bacteria, there are only a few types that can survive our digestion if we eat enough of them.

Are you generally healthy, do you have any conditions that you are worried about?

ApplesinmyPocket · 07/06/2025 23:02

I'm 68 and never been sick from undercooked chicken, which I know I've eaten by mistake at least a handful of times over the decades.

Listen to Tessiebear "You'd be very unlucky if it gave you food poisoning. Our stomachs are extremely good at neutralising bacteria, there are only a few types that can survive our digestion if we eat enough of them."

The very likeliest outcome is that you'll be fine. Your clever human digestive system will deal with it and not trouble you.
