I swear it wasn’t there when I looked….. and now it is!

Ok, I’m doubting myself now….

Needed my tweezers this morning to do my eyebrows. I have one small drawer for my makeup and other bits. Looked for teeezers and they weren’t there. Took out the little organisers things I have (3) and emptied the contents out, still no tweezers. Checked my bedside table and my dressing gown pockets in case I had it it my hand and put it down somewhere. Nothing. Asked teenage daughter if she had borrowed them, she said no she has her own.

Got distracted with making lunch and laundry etc. Came back upstairs and opened the makeup drawer, the tweezers are sitting right on the top!!!!

Am I going mad?!?!

Gremlins...

If it makes you feel better, I lost the butter dish yesterday. A whole butter dish that only lives in one place and never moves. Thought I was just being stupid so kept looking and looking. Moving stuff around in case it ended up behind the herbs or something nada.

Came back a few minutes later...and it was right there.

Tweezers are easy to lose in comparison.

Prayingforananswer · 07/06/2025 15:55

Hahaha! I went to the freezer yesterday for a slab of ribs and it wasn't there. Opened the freezer today, and there it was. At the top!

Itiswhysofew · 07/06/2025 15:57

Happens a lot to me. It is mind blowing though.

JohnTheRevelator · 07/06/2025 16:02

I've had incidents Ike this a few times. Several years ago,I put my electric meter key in my handbag to take out with me to put some credit on. When I got to the shop to do this,I looked in my bag for the key. It wasn't there. I searched through my entire handbag, eventually practically emptying out the whole bag,to no avail. After 15 minutes of searching and getting increasingly annoyed,I gave up, resigned to the fact that I would have to contact the electric company for a new one. When I got home,I put my hand in my bag to get my door keys out, and there was the key, exactly where I had looked at least 3 times. I still can't understand how I missed it.

I lost s pair of the kids shoes before half term. I had put them on one of the chairs in the dining room in a rush in the morning. Went to get them later in the day, couldn't find them. Looked everywhere, asked the kids if they had seen them, asked school if he'd left them there after PE maybe. After almost a week I had given up all hope of ever finding them, told OH I'm just going to have to buy another pair, went to sit on the chair and there they were. I still can't work it out.

TwelfthOfNever · 07/06/2025 16:15

Daughter putting them back while you were away? Either that or ghosts.

Stichintime · 07/06/2025 16:18

Tweezers going missing was an ongoing thing here. This stopped once the teenagers stopped being teenagers. Yes they had their own, but also liberated mine if they couldn't find theirs.

chunkybear · 07/06/2025 16:19

I ask my mum to put them somewhere easy to find (she's dead by the way!) and things often turn up, one thing was my glasses, 10 days they were missing and they turned up on top of the microwave

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 07/06/2025 16:22

Daughter had them and put them back when you were distracted.

twoshedsjackson · 07/06/2025 16:49

Most annoying was the gauntlet mittens in an Arran design which I knitted (intricate Aran pattern on the back). I lost one, hunted high and low, gave up, got some more wool and knitted a replacement. Of course the first one mysteriously reappeared in a drawer which I am certain I checked.

UnctuousUnicorns · 07/06/2025 17:00

Yeah, it happens. I once (this was about 18 years ago) put the TV and DVD remotes down on the table in the living room. I was alone in the house at the time, no pets. Left the room to use the toilet and then fetch a snack from the kitchen. Went back into the living room - no sign of the remotes. Definitely not on the table, checked elsewhere in the living room, sofas etc. No luck.

I thought I must have taken them out of the room with me and absentmindedly put them down somewhere else. Checked upstairs, bathroom, landing windowsill, on top of hallway radiator, checked in kitchen - nowhere. I went back into the living room - nearly jumped out of my skin - the remotes were back, slap bang on the table. 😲 It freaked me out so much I remember immediately phoning my mum about it. Similar stuff has happened since. It's real.

I lost a big bright orange Citroen hire car once on holiday. Parked it right outside our accommodation the night before but it wasn’t there the next morning when I looked out the window. Shouted to DH that it had been nicked - he ran downstairs - looked out the same window & there it was. Exactly where I left it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Let the boffins explain that!

ChunkingDreamer · 07/06/2025 17:02

It’s the little people!

Happens to me all the time and asking “them” to give it back works surprisingly well.

Obviously, my brain has just blanked it out when I’m looking, and asking them to return it gives me focus again. Probably.

MarxistMags · 07/06/2025 17:04

It's the Matrix having a blip.

Allseeingallknowing · 07/06/2025 17:09

Had a radar key. It’s quite big. Looked for it before a day out. Handbag emptied , zipped sections emptied- nothing. Few weeks later opened bag to get comb out, there it was, on top of the other stuff in the bag-weird!

Loveinbloom · 07/06/2025 17:09

I nipped to our local co op for milk, and and in my change I noted there was a £2 coin as I save these.
Got home put the milk away, then went into my purse to put the £2 in my saving pot, and there is no change in my purse.

Upended my bag nothing there, I even checked another purse I have in case I had used that, coat pockets nope.
I gave up thinking I must have dropped the change and not realised.

Two days later, I looked into the original purse for my bank card, and there was the change!!!! I had turned that purse inside out in my search.
Is it some sort of glitch in the matrix?

I posted about my experience once and got told by some patronising twat, "That's what called looking with your seeing eyes". 🙄 I not only looked, I moved, with my touching hands, everything around on the table to thoroughly check, and those two remotes were absolutely, 100% not on that table at this time. And then they reappeared there again. Like I said, I was alone at the time, so no DH or kids or pets to blame. I just smile at people who say this sort of thing doesn't happen, because they don't know what the fuck they're talking about. 🤷‍♀️

PennyInATizzyAgain · 07/06/2025 17:13

I hate when this happens/ is it just me, or do these episodes seem more frequent as we get older? I'm in my mid 40s and I'm sure I never used to be this scatty in my 20s and 30s! 😫

MarxistMags · 07/06/2025 17:04

It's the Matrix having a blip.

Is where we're imperceptibly slipping in and out of multiple alternative universes all the time? I don't think about this sort of stuff too much as it fries my brain. Having witnessed these things it does make you wonder though. 🤔

Yes, some people will never believe that this kind of thing can happen and they’re usually patronising aggressive about it.

ChunkingDreamer · 07/06/2025 17:19

The “paranormal community” call them JOTTS as in “just one of those things.

SunshineMountain · 07/06/2025 17:37

We lived in a property where we’d get lots of post for Elizabeth or Liz. Stuff would go missing all the time; big things too like a saucepan or a mixing bowl. Normally kitchen things. My husband and I would both look together when it was a “am I going mad” moment. Sometimes it would be a good few weeks until these items would appear again. Whether it was the kids moving things around or what, I don’t know, but we joked that Liz had died in the property and was haunting us. We don’t live there any more and have lived in our current property for over a year now and if we lose something when it’s not in its obvious place we still joke that Liz has come to visit us. It’s so weird isn’t it?

EnjoythemoneyJane · 07/06/2025 17:41

Had this happen several times, most notably with DH’s pen. He WFH and has a particular one he uses for note-taking on work conference calls and is incredibly anal about it (about all his work stuff, in fact). He’s very particular about his laptop, pens, notebooks, etc. They all sit neatly in the same place (on an otherwise empty table), always, and nobody else is allowed to touch any of it - which is fair enough as it can be stressful setting up for meetings etc.

One day he moved from the table to another room to take a call and in the process the pen disappeared. Both of us were searching high and low, checking all the obvious places plus down the side of sofas, floors, under tables - just about everywhere we could think of. Completely gone. A few hours later it reappeared, all on its own back on the empty table.

No one else in the house. Unless the dog has secretly developed opposable thumbs I have no frigging idea where it went or how it got back there. It freaked both of us out and honestly made me believe in time slips 😂.

Stop with all this paranormal crap, it is the borrowers doing it.

Surely, borrowers fall under the paranormal umbrella though? Like Bigfoot and boggarts and little green men.
