Why were they eating in London anyway? I thought London was a no-go ghetto ruled by Sharia law ?

Itcantbetrue · 07/06/2025 11:46

@inkognitha unfortunately Voltaire probably also had a caveat that this didn't apply to his servants!

Again, a purity test rather than addressing the content.

It’s the message, not the messenger.

We had a thread the other week on here about someone complaining about racists remarks being made in a pub and that staff should intervene to stop this. The overwhelming view (and mine) is that there is freedom of expression and someone can express their view and staff should not be expected to police opinions.

However, it was also pointed out that the owner or landlord retained the right to refuse service. The same is true for Hawksmoor here. They retained that right.

It all depends on why they refused service and whether their decision was lawful or not.

No idea what hitchens razor is but quoted on here alot so must be an intellectually tired quote that someone got from the Guardian. As a country we have got to make cuts as we are financially bankrupt - Starmer chose to cut the wfa and disability which shows he's bad at politics (and has backtracked) instead of benefits in general which cost a fortune. Island of strangers is just a desperate attempt to align with polls which show people are extremely worried about mass immigration - he won't actually cut it drastically and has done nothing about illegals. He supported Corbyn and tried to reverse Brexit and is an authoritarian- hard left.

Hitchens was a Tory who left the party because it wasn’t right leaning enough for his taste.

Yes, but there is nothing to suggest on what we know of this incident that Hawksmoor did not act lawfully. If there is more to it, then doubtless it will come out.

And you can dislike Islam without being racist, how come noone seems to have a problem with Hinduism, Buddhism or Sikhism if dislike of Islam is a front for racism? I am a Christian and support the persecuted Christians of all races around the world, Christianity is the most persecuted religion in the world and it is clear that most persecution is done by Muslims.

Just look at the atrocities happening in Nigeria as we speak. Oddly enough the BBC and other mainstream media are avoiding those stories like the plague. This is why platforms like X are so important.

I've seen Muslims smashing Christians heads in with baseball bats and gunning down entire villages, children included, in the last couple of weeks. No screeching pink haired lunatics swing flags around London for this though.

I suggest you read the full court documents like I have. He pled guilty to releasing 'Silenced' which breached the court order hence the contempt of court charges. He did not plead guilty to the libel case and maintains the contents of the documentary are true. The whole thing was a stitch up because the video of the boys fighting had gone viral and the school had to be closed down.

You cannot show any evidence for any of that, simply because it did not happen.
This was in my home town and I know some of the people involved and I can tell you that the boy did NOTHING WRONG

Indians can be racist, as much as people from any country.
Yaxley Lennon seems to reserve most of his ire for Muslims (as do many Indians)
I had to listen to an Indian lady last week tell me that she didn't want to live in an area with too many Muslims as if her son went to school with them he might pick up their bad habits as they have no idea how to behave.

If that opinion can be backed up with fact it is not racist. In my experience homophobia is a bad habit that most muslims have (which makes sense, assuming that they believe what they claim to believe)

Wrong, again

I was sharing the same mantra about TR until less than a year ago, after his march last July, then I read a bit more. And I watch the collective largely facts-free, hysterical, performative hounding such as here.

You know that one by Voltaire (you probably don’t) « I do not share your views but I’ll fight to death for you to have the right to express them »

100% agree with you

bombastix · 07/06/2025 11:58

Robinson libelled that boy and lost. He then substantially repeated his allegations in his film which amounted to contempt and he was jailed.

That case was about whether someone with one belief should be forced to aid someone else pushing an opposite belief. If the cake had been a cake with no message, and the baker denied service due to the beliefs or sexual orientation of the customers then I am sure he would have last.

Thanks for femsplaining but I am very familiar with the case.

Hence why I quoted it here.

"What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence"

It is mainly credited to Christopher Hitchens, hence Hitchens' Razor. But it can also be traced back to a latin phrase, apparently:

"Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur ("What is asserted gratuitously is denied gratuitously").

Itcantbetrue · 07/06/2025 12:00

@inkognitha no I get that it was a joke

Unfortunately no one is perfect like John Lennon, stunning song " imagine" when he treated his first son dreadfully and was apparently nasty about a disabled child.

I can't find silenced but TR spoke to the Oxford Union which in astonished about so I will watch that.

Itcantbetrue · 07/06/2025 12:01

@Menopausalsourpuss Corbyn was for Brexit from the labour front abroad point of view

JamieCannister · 07/06/2025 12:02

StressedStepmum36 · 07/06/2025 11:41

Well that’s fair enough, but I’m not policing his opinions. He’s allowed them, but we have freedom of speech not freedom of consequences.

If none of the staff will serve him, and the proprietor doesn’t want him there either - they can (and clearly have) refused to serve him.

It’s all performative nonsense. He’s all over X demanding the CEO contacts him, despite being clearly given the man’s details on a business card. You email him, Stephen, and he’ll tell you again you’re not welcome.

If you can't go out for a meal or a drink because you exercised freedom of speech then you don't really have freedom of speech do you?

Next you'll be saying that Jews in nazi germany had freedom of religion... just it came with the consequence of dying in a concentration camp.

I feel the same about serving religious people who are so judgemental they think I am going to hell - but unfortunately for us both we cannot discriminate based on belief (so long as it is a protect belief)

Beliefs are not a protected characteristic. I am sure you could refuse to serve hate preachers.
i would refuse to serve Andrew Tate

WibbleyPie · 07/06/2025 12:04

Honestly all I can take from this thread is that it shouldn't be allowed to refuse service to someone no matter what, and doing that's a slippery slope, quite possibly illegal, morally wrong and oppressive and to allow it risks a two tier society.

But forcing someone to interact with and serve someone who makes them uncomfortable (and actually has that bit been explained? For all anyone knows a member of staff or their family could have been a victim in the past) is absolutely fine because they're in a service job.

Slippery slopes and two tier society indeed.

Not in 2025, toeing the ideological line, no independent thinking, intolerance, anti-democratic views are behaviours more prevalent among left-leaning voters.

The Left is definitely not the place for intellectual debate, critical thinking or humanism anymore.

Neither is the right.

I think it seems likely that he was kicked out for his views, and it seems likely to me that his views are legally protected in the UK (or will turn out to be if it is ever put to the test).

I see no reason to assume that there will be full open honesty from the restaurant.

In July 2021 Robinson was found guilty of libel and ordered to pay £100,000 in damages and legal costs, which he attempted to avoid by declaring bankruptcy. An injunction was also granted to stop him from repeating the libel.

Hufflemuff · 07/06/2025 12:09

Could be worse, I'm sure he's had a few people rub their dirty arse and balls on his plate in secret when they saw it was him.

But you can’t infer that and sue. That is not enough in law. It may be likely in your view, but that simply isnt enough where there needs to be some evidence.
