I’m returning to work this Monday after 48 week's of maternity leave. Before I left, I worked three days in the office and two from home.
During a KIT meeting with my line mangers , I was informed that my Assistant role had been removed and its responsibilities were being added to mine. I was also told that I would need to be in the office five days a week. Despite the extra workload, they didn’t mention any changes to my salary. I was caught off guard and didn’t respond at the time, but I did follow up in an email, asking about holiday cover and what happens if I need to stay home if my baby is sick. They said they’re bringing in an intern to support me.
Until recently, I wasn’t fully aware of my legal rights. However, after reading through the government guidance, I’ve learned that when returning from maternity leave, I’m entitled to return to the same role, with the same working pattern and terms, unless there’s a really clear reason why that isn’t possible.
Now I’m unsure what to do. I want to return to work, but I also want to protect my rights and do what’s best for my baby and my family. I’m feeling stuck.
