I bought an M+S beauty bag out of sympathy for them...well sort of.

I do like a bargain and I also like shopping, so not saying there was nothing in the act for me.

It is 6.30. I am awake. I need an update. Did the bag actually make it up to the bedroom or did you forget? Was it left malingering on the stairs only to be crushed by the heavy foot of of your DH in the night when he went down for a midnight snack? (If so LTB.) Did you slip and end up in traction?

I am waiting...

I have a guilty secret about M&S that I haven’t told anyone yet because I feel a little ashamed. Just days before the cyber attack I bought some T-shirts online and when I went to check out, a ‘student beans’ discount had been applied to my bag. I have no idea why. I’m 53 and haven’t been a student in 30 years. It was obvious it was a mistake but I thought ‘what the heck’ and paid for the items less the discount. 2 days later M&S imploded and I suspect the hackers were running riot for a few hours beforehand doing all sorts. I feel very guilty that I benefitted from this. So today in my Ocado shop I bought one of those ridiculous £8 Big Daddy chocolate bars as penance. Will I be forgiven?

oh dear - simply the best chocolate I’ve had.

whats next for you is hiding it

OP @soupyspoon I have been reading your thread in a Scottish accent. Am I right?

You'll be very disappointed, you're going to have re read the whole thing again in soft cockney.

Im sorry.

Bit surprised how few people use preserved lemons. I recently bought Iranian dried black limes. Found a lovely aubergine stew recipe to use them in.

Also, seems a few people don't know M&S was hacked about two months ago and they've not been able to get their website back up yet - wiped hundreds of millions off their value, they're losing something like £40m a week!

I put £35 back into their coffers yesterday with the bag alone

I was surprised to see that their basic flour was only 85p and the lemons were only 2 quid

Every little helps as they say

oh wait, thats Tesco

I have a bath tray made from bamboo that has an iPad holder and a place for a glass of wine, sometimes if I’m planning a really long bath I also take wine in a flask so I can top my glass up 😂.
I light a few candles and enjoy the peace and quiet.

The only problem is I fell asleep as I was so relaxed when I got out of the bath and have just woken up hours later still in my robe with a towel on my head. I lay down on the bed for 5 minutes and DP said I looked very peaceful so instead of waking me he lay down next to me and he was also asleep. He has managed to fall back to sleep in a matter of minutes once we properly got into bed and thanks to perimenopause I’ll be wide awake for hours now.

I did NOT know the bag wasn’t available online, it turns out I was looking at the beauty box that had similar items mentioned. Now I have a true dilemma, I have my heart set on the bag now but if I go into M&S it’s likely to cost more if I see more pretty shiny things I like. Is this because of the cyber attack or because they are clever and know if they lure us into store that it’s impossible to not visit the food hall?

Oh well I will probably have the rest of the night to think about it and all the other random thoughts that only seem to occur in the early hours!

Well you have probably found out by now that, no you cant buy anything online due to their 'issues'.

So its a physical shop for you or no bag.

Im here, drinking godawful tea with that UHT milk

The bag is safely upstairs. It still doesnt have a home, its on top of a chest of drawers, theres no where to put the individual pieces yet. That is still to be achieved. I couldnt risk the heavy foot of OH

I did as suggested have a little squirt of the perfume, its certainly unusual, not sure what to make of it, I think I need more time

Woken up with a migraine though so either its the sheer heady excitement of my purchases yesterday or the perfume is not good for me.

I have an appointment tomorrow which rather conveniently takes me past M&S. Reading this thread has given me much FOMO....so of course I googled what's in the bag. Never mind lemons ....I see the Floral perfumey thing is Rhubarb! I'm more excited by this than I should be. I love, love, love a rhubarb scent. In fact I love all things rhubarb.

Yeah , I thought that when I bought a 10ml spray sampler (thankfully I didn't go for a big bottle)
It smelled like candyfloss on me .
The closest it got to Rhubarb was the word Rhubarb on the bottle . Hmm
Good ethical brand , made in UK , cruelty free , glass bottles , ....I need to try other scents in the range I reckon.

fgswhywouldIdothat · 06/06/2025 06:58

Migraine? Unexpected plot twist. I was thinking it was going to be along the lines of
"I didn't take it upstairs after all. I took out the bits I wanted, then I chucked the rest down into the bunker where DH keeps the other Sister Wives when they're not on rotation."

soupyspoon · 06/06/2025 07:02

Actually this year Ive found I like all the bits, thats quite unusual for me. I normally give a few bits away.

And now thanks to another poster I am reading my own posts in a Scottish accent. A soft Edinburgh type, not Glaswegian just to say

I might go into work talking like that. They'll think Ive had a head injury or something

Tripping over a beauty bag or something like that.

I LOVE the sunflower pop one.

I rarely think long running threads are a good or interesting thing but in this case I will make an exception Grin I am strangely drawn to your relatable struggles and quiet humour OP. Keep going!

Ooh I like an M&S beauty box.

The cynical side of me is wondering if you’re an M&S marketer… But I love a wholesome thread so I’m here for it 🫶

I tried the M&S chocolate covered custard creams the other day. So good.

I also bought those, though they did cause a bit of controversy. There were 8 in the packet and 5 people in the house, so it was every man for himself.

I made sure everyone got one, then made sure I got one of the extra ones. I think my daughter had an extra one as well, I wasn't supervising and I believe she ate two in one sitting, which is a bit much. I have no idea who had the final left over.

Tbh they were extremely sweet and I am not sure I will buy them again.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 06/06/2025 08:02

I really like the perfume but it isn’t rhubarby

Jewelanemone · 06/06/2025 08:15

I have the M & S Sea Salt & Neroli eau de toilette. I bought it because I liked the name and the box, which are probably not the best criteria for choosing a perfume. It does smell nice, fortunately.

We have a large new food hall near us. Every time I go in I'm paralysed with indecision and end up buying the same things I always buy. It's wasted on me.

GoGoGovy · 06/06/2025 08:16

@ThatsNotMyTeen 12 hours later and the electric rhubarby essence is still lingering. Now smells like a delicate vanilla.

Well, I’ve made my mind up. Off to M&S later to get another bag.
Loving the brush. Always in need of another mascara. Have high hopes for the hair frizz gloop. Decent perfume. Nice bag, which will double up as small packing cube for knickers, etc. Plus, it’s Friday and I can’t be arsed to cook tonight, so a trip to the food section is required.

measureofmydreams · 06/06/2025 08:36

I was in M&S yesterday, and the day before, it feels like visiting a sick relative. Didn't see the beauty bag which is just as well. I would have done a sympathy buy too.

I have so many products from beauty bags I have them arranged and labelled by type in zipped food bags and stored in a cupboard.

I have no preserved lemons. Yet.

Newnamesagain · 06/06/2025 11:12

Has anyone got one of those stair baskets? Allows you to have a stair pile but looks intentional.

angelinawasrobbed · 06/06/2025 11:13

I’ve always fancied one of those

Yet another opportunity to use the laughing reaction! Instead I’ll have to do this ….. 🤣

Negroany · 06/06/2025 12:57

In solidarity, I ordered the JustMyLook beauty bag last night, no idea why, it's full of self tanning stuff and I never use that!

Magnoliasunrise · 06/06/2025 13:41

I'm now feeling bad for not feeling bad for M&S so I will go and buy a beauty bag at the weekend. It will go on my "things to do" list.
