To think alarm clocks have really helped make us all on time

This really. Do others who are naturally late due to biological reasons feel that alarm clocks have helped them be on time. And if not, do you think you should make others feel bad about using them

Why have you phrased this as a general inquiry when it’s clearly related to a specific situation? You will get much more meaningful responses if you include all of the info.

I mentioned alarm clocks as a great aid to being on time and making sure you don’t miss meetings or dates or other things and quite a few people Have said this is a ridiculous concept so I just wondered what others thought

What on earth 😂

BeMintFatball · 03/06/2025 17:45

Huh? Alarm clocks are great provided you remember to set them. I have an intellectually disabled adult daughter. She has no concept
of time. Every day is different for her so it’s mot
a case of setting one time job done. I live in a constant state of anxiety making sure she gets to places on time and she works part time

You mean you were being passive aggressive and got called out?
Confused.

My phone can set different alarms for different days, that won't help if her days are different week to week but may help day by day for her.

Alarm clocks are shit and depressing. Snooze button prevents punctuality.

CaptainMyCaptain · 03/06/2025 17:47

What a weird question.

PrettyPuss · 03/06/2025 17:47

But it's not as though they're a new thing, is it?

You do realise they have been around for donkey's years? I am 53 and always had an alarm clock. Now, it's on my iPhone but back in my youth it was Mickey Mouse (how I LOVED that clock!). At one point, it was on a 'Teasmade' machine and woke me up with a very bright light and a cup of tea!

Snorlaxo · 03/06/2025 17:47

They are only annoying if someone sets one to go off when I’m sleeping

MigGril · 03/06/2025 17:47

Well they are really helpful if you remember to set them up right. I almost missed 2 appointments this week as I had forgot to set the timers on them early enough. 🙈 I would forget most things without reminders but setting the reminder in the first place can also be a problem.

WhereIsMyJumper · 03/06/2025 17:48

Do other posters believe that water makes them wet?

CaptainMyCaptain · 03/06/2025 17:48

Don't most people use their their phones now anyway?

TeenLifeMum · 03/06/2025 17:48

Surely everyone uses an alarm to be on time? At work my calendar gives me 15 minute warnings of meetings.

DappledThings · 03/06/2025 17:50

When has anyone said that? Before we had mechanical alarm clocks there were people who would go round and bang on windows to wake people up. The concept of not waking up on time naturally is hardly new

NewPeaches · 03/06/2025 17:50

I'd like to see a return of the Knocker-Uppers of yesteryear with their pea shooters.

I’m now yearning for a teasmaid - my grandparents had one. I can set my coffee machine and did when I first got it but somehow stopped and forgot it does that… off to set the filter coffee timer for the morning 🥰

It depends on how it was put and what was going on. I'm one for lists. They take the pressure off. Also notes in my phone and alarms. However if you have small children, have to use public transport etc, there can be delays that alarms won't fix.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 03/06/2025 17:55

I’m not sure I understand the OP. Do you mean an alarm clock to wake you in the morning, or setting alarms on your phone to remind you to do things ? Do we not all do whatever we find personally helpful to keep to required routines ? Is it that someone is teasing you because you are using reminder alarms? Just ignore them.

BunnyLake · 03/06/2025 18:14

Alarm clocks have been around for a long time, they’re hardly a new phenomena and the entire point of them is to wake you or alert you.

What do you think of this ready sliced bread invention, have you tried it OP? It’s pretty handy isn't it, especially when you’re in a rush in the morning because your alarm didn’t go off.
