To be spooked by delivery driver trying to open my door?

Inspired by Doorbell Detectives on BBC1 at the min.

Friday night I’d popped out my front door for a cigarette, the shame, at 11pm. I heard panting then noticed a man walking up the road with a big delivery bag.

I walked back into the house and as I shut the door, I felt resistance as though someone was trying to push it back open quite forcefully. Managed to shut it and pull the handle up and the handle was being pulled back down, I could see through our slim pane of glass someone’s arm but quickly locked the door and ran in to tell DP.

I thought I may have been imagining it as I was spooked by the man panting. I asked our neighbour opposite with a ring doorbell to have a look and although it’s not clear, the man was at our door at that time (also knocked at theirs opposite though)

Not sure how to enable voting but would you be worried about this? I presume he was just trying to deliver a takeaway but it’s panicking me a bit!

Was it a delivery for you?

No you are not wrong. He tried far too hard and if he wanted your attention he could have called out to you as you went inside.

So it wasn’t your delivery?

It wasn’t my delivery, no. Apologies if that wasn’t clear!

That would scare me. Especially as he didn't even announce himself.

I agree, he definitely could have tried to get my attention. The distance he was away between me walking inside to shutting the door would have meant he’d have ran to reach the door before I shut it too, it caught me off guard.

I’d only noticed he was walking this way because of how loudly he was panting, he wasn’t walking past the house when I noticed him if you see what I mean.

I was woken up by my neighbours son who’d ordered a midnight pizza shouting at a delivery driver for just trying his door and opening it.
delivery driver claimed he thought it was the entrance to a flat ? No idea why, it’s a bungalow!
It made me worry as often when it’s dark, they get confused with numbers. So it seems they do sometimes try doors

ukaway · 02/06/2025 22:21

@Marble10i did wonder whether he thought our door was the entrance to a block of flats. But we’re a detached houseConfused not sure how you would mistake a bungalow tho
