To be unhappy with this hair?

I paid £274 for this balayage yesterday. The hairdresser was keen to curl it as soon as we were finished, I assume to hide the unevenness. I asked for a blonde balayage but she explained that wouldn’t be possible in one session as my hair had dark brown dye on it. We settled on it being quite warm but I I was happy with that as a first step to blonde.
issue is, now I’ve washed and dried it, it’s SO BLOCKY. One side is definitely better than the other.
would you be happy with this balayage?

She’s massively overcharged for that even without the fact she messed it up and argued over it, the redo is better but I wouldn’t be happy. This is my before and after, think it was £220 with a cut and hair treatment.

It does look better after the redo but I think you could have expected better and it's been unpleasant in terms of stress and your time wasted. I would focus on conditioning treatments and finding another hairdresser. What was she thinking when she sent you out the door the first time with a job that was clearly botched? She must have realised that as soon as you washed it or the curl fell out you'd notice the awful job.

I had a hair disaster once when the salon changed brands and the light blonde colour that was meant to match my old colour had so much ash in it that it looked brown rather than blonde. My hairdresser lifted the colour and toned etc over the top. I had to come back the next day for the toning as it took ages to lift the colour out. But she didn't send me out with a set of dark roots hoping I wouldn't notice. She's moved salons and they use another brand too but she was watching my hair like a hawk this time and the colour was perfect.

She said she did tone it but it’s still like this. I’m so upset and embarrassed I don’t even want to go to work tomorrow with hair like this ugh

People at work probably won't even notice. But I can understand why you're unhappy. Insist on a refund.

So the brassiness is down to the dye I had on my hair before. About a year ago I decided to put a red semi permanent dye on my hair. I then dyed over it semi permanent brown. The brassiness is because the bleach hasn’t lifted the brown and red dye to blonde all in one go which I kinda understand because I was quite conscious about damaging it too much all in one go with multiple rounds of bleach. She told me it’d be like this and I was ok with the colour to be honest. It’s had a toner and I’ve put blue and purple shampoo on it. Will go elsewhere in a few months to get the orange lifted out hopefully. Thanks everyone xxx

She said she didn’t even notice it full time but took full responsibility yesterday when I went and she looked at it. What’s odd is, on Saturday when I first had it done, she said ‘let me know if there’s any issues’ as I was leaving. I thought this was kinda weird as why would you have issues with hair if you know someone’s leaving with it done correctly? I’ve never had a hairdresser say that to me

It does look better for sure

I’m not a huge fan of balayage personally

I think I would just let it grow out and never get it done again

UPDATE FOR YOU ALL!!
So obviously it was still terrible and I couldn’t deal with it anymore so I decided to fix it myself. I bleached parts of it myself to blend it more then I sent loads of pics to chat GPT and also pics of what I was after. It made me a really detailed RedkenEQ toner formulation which I followed down to the ml, I had to mix three different shades!
I am over the moon with my hair. If in doubt, see what AI says! 😂

Wow, that looks great. Well done!

I’m sorry it was so awful to start with though, she seems completely clueless.

Also, for that price you could have gone to a top salon. My salon is really popular and has won awards and I pay £180 for balyage, toner and a cut.

Ladyymuck · 08/06/2025 15:34

Oh wow you’ve done an amazing job on your hair! It looks beautiful. I would not go back to that hairdresser again that was an awful balayage she did and her rectification wasn’t that great but you have outdone her!!

Imbusytodaysorry · 08/06/2025 15:39

@Wouldyoubehappy123 over £200 x2 sittings and you done a better job yourself .
Honestly why do hairdressers never listen ?

Cherrytree86 · 08/06/2025 15:44

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 02/06/2025 14:08

Let her try and fix it - she's not a salon so asking for a refund is pretty extreme.

@eqpi4t2hbsnktd

why is it extreme? It was a terrible service so Op should be refunded regardless of whether she has a salon or not.

@Wouldyoubehappy123

that looks so much better Op, well done! 👏

never go back to that hairdresser she is absolutely useless and the refusal to refund you was shockingly bad.

Toystory123 · 08/06/2025 15:46

It looks great - you (and ChatGPT) have done an amazing job!! Glad you manage to sort it - what was originally done by the hairdresser didn’t look great at all. I got my hair completely messed up from asking a hairdresser for balayage as well a few years ago, never again lol

Wouldyoubehappy123 · 08/06/2025 22:20

Breakdown of her pricing :
balayage and toner £200
wash cut and blow dry £49
olaplex £25

she barely cut my hair all I asked for was if she could just cut into my ends a little. Took her 2 mins. I also thought that a wash and blow dry was pretty standard and free for having your hair done? She did a rough dry…

Great news op! How did you manage that, was it the threat of the small claims court?

Yes threat of small claims and a screenshot of the claim before I’d paid the claim fee and sent it, showing I was serious. I’ve actually just had a balayage done elsewhere and it’s beautifully blended for just £81.

Paid by bank transfer. I’ve done some research on toners I can use on it to help it blend at least if it still doesn’t look good but I’ve got my fingers crossed.
