Hello everyone,

I’m seeking some advice. I am based in hillingdon .My son 4.5 is currently on the autism assessment pathway and is non-verbal with sensory issues. We have been waiting for speech therapy for about 1.5 years now. While he attends a speech and language group session once every three months, in which they only assess him and give us homework we tried everything at home we still haven't received any individual speech therapy. Many people around me are suggesting that I consider private speech and language therapy. I’d appreciate any insights on whether it would be beneficial to pursue private sessions and what the costs might be, or if I should continue waiting for support through the NHS. Thank you!

Yes as my username suggests this my day job. In your position I would honestly do everything I could to get some SLT input. Not in your area but have contacts pm me if you like.

If it helps at all we’re also in London, although different part, and my DS has speech therapy privately which costs £105 for a 45 minute session. He has a lisp which we’re working on correcting so different needs to your DS but the costs at the practice would be the same regardless. Personally I wanted a therapist he could build a rapport with and I also wanted sessions at a convenient time, currently he does them first thing and can be dropped at nursery afterwards, so private suits us much better than NHS.
