Blackcurrant jelly babies are an abomination

.... and need to be abolished, along with pink French Fancies, decaff coffee and jammy red wine.

Prove me wrong.

Nooooo! Blackcurrant ones are the best hands down, also pink French are second best, after brown

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 31/05/2025 13:18

All jelly babies are good jelly babies (unless Haribo). This is a scientific FACT. Blackcurrant jellies babies are the best, but I do accept this is currently (currantly?) unproven. I am, however, prepared to carry out extensive scientific research into this.

Let this be your warning. Tesco jelly babies will disprove that theory. They are VILE.

ShiningStar3 · 31/05/2025 14:12

Ah yes, pink French Fancies are awful. In fact, I think I should take the liberty of confiscating them from everyone. I can look after them!

TheFormidableMrsC · 31/05/2025 14:13

I love blackcurrant jelly babies 🤷🏻‍♀️

NoisyLemonDog · 31/05/2025 14:17

What?! They are the best jelly babies and fought over in our house. Pink french fancies are second best, after chocolate. On the fence about decaff coffee and the wine.

Do you remember the gorgeous coloured Toffos? I can't think if there was one flavour I didn't like.

Yes! I loved those. Except the mint flavour- they were the horrible ones. Oh wait… wasn’t there a liquorice flavour one too? Or have I dreamed that up??
Anyway YABU OP ( except for pink French Fancies).

Plump82 · 31/05/2025 14:21

YABVU as I like all those things!

IfNot · 31/05/2025 14:23

Joolsin · 31/05/2025 13:13

Correct order for eating all jelly-type sweets, ranked from "delicious" to "will only eat as there are no others left": black, red, orange, yellow and finally, green (bleugh).

So, op, YABVVU

This is true. In fact I think it’s a by-law in some places?

Oh yeah, forgot about the mint ones. They were boring. Can't remember the liquorice one.

Livpool · 31/05/2025 14:26

I hate jelly babies full stop so feel free to eat what you like and I will happily throw the rest in the bin!

Yellow French Fancies are the best ones - wish they did a box of just them. DH likes the brown ones - weirdo!

PorgyandBess · 31/05/2025 14:26

In the extremely unlikely event I ate a jelly baby, it would only be a black one.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 31/05/2025 14:27

Only butterscotch Angel Delight is acceptable. There is no point in any other flavours.

pizzaHeart · 31/05/2025 14:29

Blackcurrant jelly babies should be forbidden and all blackcurrants should be moved into blackcurrant Haribo production. They are good for you - rich in vitamin C and the colour is very calming.
French fancies of any colour should be allowed but only if they are using proper butter not palm oil.
As to decaf coffee … wait for a bit at some point of your life it’s the only coffee you can digest without getting anxiety, sleep issues and cystitis 😞
not sure what jammy red wine is. Is it produced from Jammie Dodgers or by Jamie Oliver?

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 31/05/2025 14:30

That moment when you thought the black wine gum was blackcurrant but it turns out to be liquorice <inserts vomit emoji>

MadisonAvenue · 31/05/2025 14:33

Toddlerteaplease · 31/05/2025 13:22

The green ones are the best. Ditto fruit pastilles

Yes! And green Starburst or whatever Opal Fruits are called these days.

Literally equal but opposite - I feel there is a lesson here somewhere.

We are obviously yin and yang!! Could we solve all world problems if we got together, given our coming at things from perfect mirror opposites? 🤔😁

This is the most sensible post I've ever read on here.

It's only taken 56.5 years, but I am finally sensible! 😇 My mother would be so proud!!

Turkish delight should also be abolished

Does it still exist? One of my childhood horrors. It was supposed to be posh.
Like biting down on congealed boiled animal bones that had been dyed pink and covered in talcum powder.

Oh.

When I'm poorly I prefer tea with one sugar! I'd never ever ever drink decaff, but I am prepared to allow it to exist if you feel it has a place in the world. #magnanimous

Jammy basically means sweet when it comes to red wine - it is a horror beyond human comprehension.

I don't like Jelly Babies either due to texture.
Sadly my teenager introduced me to Sour Patch sweets... Now we're talking!

Excellent - expect a massive consignment any day now.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 31/05/2025 14:49

Blackcurrant is the best flavour - and I believe the most popular one!

French fancies aren’t nice, and I don’t know what red wine is “jammy” tbh so can’t comment on that.

Edit - I don’t drink coffee so don’t care that - had to give up for my health but used to find it tasted similar

DinoLil · 31/05/2025 14:50

I'm just bumbling in to say you are all wrong!

The best jelly flavoured sweet is the white one, the pear flavour. Best thing ever

Jelly babies are somewhat inferior to proper jelly sweets, but they're a bit odd with their hard outside. Jelly beans, however, are just great.

Pink French Fancies win all day long. I remember eating eight at a party about 45yrs ago and being very, very sick that night! I still prefer them, though! Apparently they were invented for Betty's Tearooms in Harrogate in the 1920's. I admit to liberating a small cake plate from there when I visited a few years ago...
