To not be able to open up brand new washing machine door

TeenWhisperer · 30/05/2025 15:06

Surely I must be missing something! Had a brand new Beko washing machine delivered today and the old one removed and can't open the door of it! Have plugged it in and spent almost an hour on the manufacturers hotline and to the seller and they're now shipping a replacement. We can't plumb it in as all the parts are in the drum. I just can't help feeling, maybe I'm missing something! Any thoughts?

Anything on Youtube? Usually my go to place for a solution.

Tagyoureit · 30/05/2025 15:12

Is it a digital display?
Is there a child lock on it?

WallaceinAnderland · 30/05/2025 15:16

Is the dial set to 0 or Stop, whatever it's called when it's off?

TeenWhisperer · 30/05/2025 15:17

It's a digital display and we've made sure the child lock is off (although it doesn't seem off).

It's tricky to find something useful online as most videos about the door not opening are about machines which are up and running!

Is it maybe a machine where the handle doesn't look like one? It's just the plastic bevel round the drum? Grab it halfway up and pull it towards you.

Can you tell I had the same problem?!

TeenWhisperer · 30/05/2025 15:22

It has a definite handle.

WeegieGrannie · 30/05/2025 15:25

I switched mine off at the mains for five minutes, and that seemed to reset it in some way. It happened several times before I realised that it would stay locked for longer the more I tried to open it.

TeenWhisperer · 30/05/2025 15:26

Ok, will try leaving it, but have already done that a bit. The manufacturer was stumped and the seller is going to replace it, but I can't help feeling there must be a trick to open the door!

What model us it

VickiFromAmsterdam · 30/05/2025 15:35

Could you run a cycle on it?

gamerchick · 30/05/2025 15:37

VickiFromAmsterdam · 30/05/2025 15:35

Could you run a cycle on it?

Probably need it to be plumbed in for that.

It's got me stumped. Have the travel bolts been taken off? Although I can't see how that would prevent the door unlocking. The only thing I could think of.

flipent · 30/05/2025 15:40

Have you checked under the pump filter cap for an emergency release? A lot of machines have a little plastic pull cord in there.

TeenWhisperer · 30/05/2025 15:45

The bolts are off and it's not plumbed in (pipes and parts are in the drum!), so can't run a cycle. I'll look for an emergency release. It's model: WTIK94121F

Maybe the door is a bit stiff? So frustrating

TeenWhisperer · 30/05/2025 16:02

It may be a bit stiff, but I can't really justify yanking it any harder 😂When I start a program and end it quickly it does seem to make a mechanical noise, but at no point is the door openable. Think we'll just have to wait for the replacement and hope we can open that one!

From a review on AO

So far so good I’m happy with the washer. Did struggle a little to open the washer door to get the instructions etc. out of the drum need a bit more of a tug than I thought it would

katmarie · 30/05/2025 16:24

This is in the manual:

Remote control door lock:
If the Remote Control Function is selected, the door will be locked. In order to open the door you must deactivate Remote Control Function by either pressing the Remote Control button or changing the programme position.

Opening the loading door in case of power failure:

In the event of a power failure, you can open the loading door manually using the loading door emergency handle.
Before opening the loading door, make sure that there is no water in the machine to avoid flooding.

  1. Turn off and unplug the appliance.
  2. Use a screwdriver to remove the loading door emergency handle screw located under the front wall.
3.Open the loading door by pulling the loading door emergency handle downwards.
  1. Try to pull the handle downwards again if the loading door is not opened.

And in the troubleshooting
• Loading door lock is activated because of the water level in the product. >>> Drain the water by running the Pump or Spin programme.
• Product is heating up the water or it is at the spinning cycle. >>> Wait until the programme completes.
• Loading door may be stuck because of the pressure it is subjected to. >>> Grab the handle and push and pull the loading door to release and open it.
• If there is no power, loading door of the product will not open. >>> To open the loading door, open the pump filter cap and pull down the emergency handle positioned at the rear side of the said cap. See Loading Door Lock [} 32]

I've added pictures, they might take a minute to load.

I believe this is the manual https://bekoplc.blob.core.windows.net/bekoupload/manuals/WTIK94121F.pdf

TeenWhisperer · 30/05/2025 16:32

Thanks all - I have the manual! I'm not really expecting to trouble shoot just opening the door after I've just unwrapped it, but perhaps my expectations are off!

OP posts:
TeenWhisperer · 30/05/2025 16:36

I've deactivated the remote control and the childlock functions and am tugging hard enough to move the machine. Maybe it is broken.

I’ve had this with my (older) washing machine OP. The child lock was stuck on!!! Had to unscrew the bloody machine handle and manually unlock the child lock, but I had my machine for about 3 years before that fault started. I wonder if it’s maybe that?

TeenWhisperer · 30/05/2025 16:56

@Mumofsoontobe3 I think it might be something like that, sadly. I thought about approaching it through the app, but the code to scan is on the inside of the door!

How frustrating is that! I really hope a new one is delivered ASAP. I bet you were itching to get a wash on - I know I for sure would be!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 30/05/2025 17:04

A similar thing happened to me, although not on a brand new machine, and we removed the top (2 screws at the back ) and was able to release the door catch from reaching down inside. Make sure the power is disconnected.
...but as it us a brand new machine i think they should replace it
