To ask if Mumsnetters can answer this question faster than the DVLA?! Been on hold for over 2 hours!

I applied for a replacement driving licence yesterday as I’ve lost mine. This was done online.

Part of the application asked if I had passport number from a valid passport. My passport is also lost and so I I cancelled it last week. I clicked ‘no’ to the passport question and then went to the payment page. I’ve had an email saying the licence will be sent out within a few weeks.

I am now worried I wasn’t allowed to apply for the replacement licence if I don’t have my passport? I’m not sure why they asked for the details, for photo matching? Either way I have proceeded without and now worried I’ve done something wrong. Can anyone help?

Pretty sure it’s just so they could have offered to use the photo on your passport for your licence.

I would think it was just the option to add your passport number, not compulsory.

It's because they will update your photo with the one from the passport if it's more recent.

It’s to use the photo if your passport is in date. I don’t have a passport, so I had to send a photo, but theyll use the one from the passport that was current.

You don’t need a passport to apply for a driving license, you’ll be fine.

Have I got it right, they said they will be sending the licence, why do you need to think about it any further? It sounds like all is fine

How old was your licence? Perhaps they can use the one from your old one, if it's still reasonably recent.

They’ll use your existing photo as your previous license was still in date.

They just reissued mine with my old photo - it still has the old expiry date and came within a couple of weeks.
