Police Not Guilty of assault of elderly care home resident

Nanny0gg · 28/05/2025 17:22

The police that tasered the 92 year-old amputee in the nursing home have been found not guilty of assault!

What on earth? What does constitute assault then?

I'm appalled by this judgement

He had a knife. What do you expect the cops to do. They did what they had to, to make the situation safe.

ExtraOnions · 28/05/2025 17:28

Have you ever been on a Dementia ward, or an EMI ward? I have as my Mum is on one.

I have known staff punch, bitten, and head butted be residents. Just because they are old, please don’t assume that they are weak and incapable.

WinterMorn · 28/05/2025 17:29

You are joking! They were found NG? Do you have a link?

ohfourfoxache · 28/05/2025 17:30

He had a specially adapted butter knife. Hardly a machete 🙄

MrsDiamante · 28/05/2025 17:33

Where was the common sense? Where was the empathy? I truly despair 😩

Happymover · 28/05/2025 17:34

He was a 92 year old amputee in a wheelchair brandishing a butter knife. He was confused and frightened. Then along came 2 loud overbearing cops who stood over him barking orders. Within 2 mins of arrival they had tasered the poor man. They should have been dismissed from the force. Their behaviour was appalling 😡

IdiottoGoa · 28/05/2025 17:35

I don’t know the details but I will say that I’ve worked in prisons and secure units for 30 years and the only time I’ve ever been assaulted was on an older people’s ward. It’s easy to view all older people as frail and gentle but that’s absolutely not the case.

I don’t know the details in this situation but it’s perhaps not as straight forward and people might think

Err... yeah worked on several elderly care wards, and the dementia unit over my 26 years in the NHS. I'm absolutely confident I could have dealt with that situation without attacking the poor old guy! Can't believe you think their horrific attack on him was justified!

Yep. My friend worked in a dementia home where resident rape and troubling coercion (of each other) was rife too. They're not all sweet elderly people.

ThatDenimExpert · 28/05/2025 17:39

It’s scary to know that any one of us could develop dementia, and then be treated like that.
whoever allowed him to have things he could use as weapons should be held accountable.

he had a butter knife.

They emptied a whole can of pepper spray in his face and then tasered him. Instead of de-escalating.

The staff need training too, tbh.

They need to lose their jobs, at best they require a LOT of training.

No they really don’t. Have you actually seen the footage? Times how long they gave an elderly disabled man to put the butter knife down? Seen how they shouted at him rather than talk gently?

MissyB1 · 28/05/2025 17:40

I just hope all those posters defending these disgraceful police officers would be happy for their elderly relative with dementia to be beaten and tasered!

It was a butter knife and he is an old amputee in a wheelchair nowhere near anyone! Hardly a threat!

The full thing was captured on the uniform camera. Watch it. Won’t take long. 90 seconds in fact.

I’ve read all the information that is in the newspapers, and trust the jury (who have heard more than any of us).

The Care Home staff, who dealt with him on a daily basis, were concerned enough to call The Police. They are the ones who knew him best, and if they couldn’t manage him, there was a real problem.

How many times were you assaulted on the EMI ward ?

100% having done 2 gerries jobs!

Profpudding · 28/05/2025 17:42

I’m amazed it didn’t kill him, if he’d have had A pacemaker for example

Brefugee · 28/05/2025 17:43

two fucking minutes? no

The police are absolute utter cunts here. No question. Not trained enough, and not enough common sense not to escalate an already difficult situation.

no wonder people don't trust them, i certainly don't. (and before anyone goes off on one: yes, i have done riot training. I have been on both sides, and even then it would have taken more than 2 minutes to get the sodding tasers out)

He was in a wheelchair and he only had one leg. He was hardly going to chase them round a room

Disappointing verdict. Dismissal by their police force is still possible, I gather.

I haven’t watched but just heard a clip on the radio. Sounded bad enough.

Poor man

And was an amputee without his wheelchair nearby, why did he need to be tasered and hit around the head repeatedly?

They’re really not all sweet. It’s so easy to watch a video and make comments. Even sweet and gentle old people can be violent. Very naive of people to assume otherwise. Hats off to anyone doing that job.
