New to this so just wondering how it all works. My first post last night was ok but some people are very nasty about punctuation and grammar. Are people that stuck up about it. Maybe some peope didn’t have good parents or some sat at their desk in class staring into space with not a clue what to do. When everyone was busy writing.

OP if you want to improve and are worried about helping your children, why don't you enrol in a course? I cannot praise adult education enough.

Ddakji · 27/05/2025 20:50

As has been explained to you several times now, if you want people to respond to your posts they must be clear and easy to read. People are giving of their free time to reply, you know. Why make it difficult?

Knowing where to put a full stop or a new para is not hard.

Andoutcomethewolves · 27/05/2025 20:43

I didn't read your post Op but based on this I'm not sure the issue people had was solely grammar...

What was it them I don’t understand

Are you here just looking for a fight? You’re ignoring posters who are explaining exactly why

Ddakji · 27/05/2025 20:54

Mamaof3x · 27/05/2025 20:52

No, it isn’t. Not if you just slow down and look at other posts to see how it’s done.

And people are going to be “mean” because your tone is so off. Calling women bitches is hardly a way to win friends.

rubicustellitall · 27/05/2025 20:54

Mamaof3x · 27/05/2025 20:51

You should go for it. Its fun, gets you out of the house for a bit, you make new friends too and it helps. Everyone is there to improve themselves for what ever reason so no one looks down on anyone. You could do this, you really could. Ring your local council or college and enquire. I wish you luck

marshmallowfinder · 27/05/2025 20:55

You can start by putting a full stop at the end of each sentence you are writing on here.

I'm not talking about your spelling and grammar,

I mean coming onto a website and calling other posters 'bitches' isn't going to exactly warm people to you.

You say you want to improve your spelling and grammar, but then call people who are good at it stuck up.

That is why you are getting a hard time. You are just rude

Am not rude what I said was I was getting a hard time for it and that what I got all the comments are belittling me in a way and because I called one person a bitch that makes me rude no it doesn’t

You need a question mark after ‘that’ instead of a full stop, to show that you are asking a question. You should have put a comma after ‘learn’ instead of a full stop and a lower case d on ‘despite’. There should also be a full stop after ‘down’.

It’s good that you want to learn.

I’m afraid it does.

And I don’t believe that someone who can use and spell the word belittle properly doesn’t know more spelling and grammar than you seem to.

Calling someone a 'bitch' on here won't get you very far.

dogcatkitten · 27/05/2025 21:01

Mamaof3x · 27/05/2025 20:25

I understand that as you’ve always had an understanding of how to use it. Whereas I don’t

You seem fine, it's the one's where it is difficult to understand what is meant, wrong words, wrong spelling, wrong punctuation to the point you have to ask so many questions back just to understand the original post. I didn't see the other thread, so can't comment on that.

You really should know that calling someone a bitch is rude, if not that is one thing you have learned.

Sometimes people post on MN and it is clear that they are dyslexic or have problems with spelling and grammar. A few posters will comment on it, but if the poor speller comes across as genuine and reasonable and it is possible to understand what they’re saying, then most replies will be pleasant.

The problem here for me really is that you’ve called someone a bitch within about five minutes of starting a thread.

I can understand that you’re self-conscious about the difficulty you have with writing. Self-consciousness can make people defensive. You don’t need to be self-conscious or defensive. Being bad at writing is no better or worse than being bad at maths or map-reading or catching a ball or baking cakes- we all have different strengths. I would strongly encourage you to look into adult literacy courses because it could make your life much easier and lighten the load of that shame you are feeling.

Please do avoid calling strangers bitches on forums though- that won’t make you any friends.

The poster means that your attitude needs more attention than your spelling and grammar.
