AI posts on Mumsnet… why?

Why would AI want to invent random scenarios and post them on mumsnet? What is the end game? Is it practicing its novel writing skills?

I just don’t get the whole AI thing. It’s like my email got hacked and everyone on my address book got spammed and sent emails with links to porn. Why woul AI think that my 80 year old auntie would be interested in dwarf porn. Surely if people are in to something that niche they would already know about it and find it.

None of it makes sense to me.

AI doesn't choose to do things like post on Mumsnet without a human telling it to. It's probably someone who's bored, goes on ChatGPT and says 'write me something engaging and interesting that I can post on a forum like Mumsnet' and just sends out whatever drivel comes back.

AI just enables people to use their minds less.

Ahhh, I was thinking that there was a Russian sex robot (with a strong interest in porn) creating all this rubbish for some nefarious, unknown purpose.

It's definitely getting worse, and you can 100% tell.

I'm at the point now where I don't believe most things I read on here, and it annoys me to see people actually investing themselves in these clearly made up scenarios. Plus there might be someone who actually needs genuine help that is missed because of it.

It's really ruining the experience on here

HoskinsChoice · 27/05/2025 11:48

The debate is, does it matter? It always astounds me when people start threads asking people's opinions on things that are so clearly research. Even after posters state that it's obviously research and point out research on the site is banned, people will still share their earnings/spending/worst nightmares/views in childcare etc etc.

It seems readers are very happy to contribute to poorly veiled research in the same way they'll happily respond to a troll. For me it's really annoying but maybe we have to accept that posters are very happy with fake stories and fake questions if it fills their time.

Yes, I agree. Whatever the reason it is very off putting. At worst it feels manipulative, at best a complete waste of everyone’s time.

They use it to test responses. We are an experiment, the aim is to make it as human as possible so people can’t tell it’s AI

Lincslady53 · 27/05/2025 12:04

I have noticed loads of AI 'reviews' on TripAdvisor too recently. It will kill the platform.

BallerinaRadio · 27/05/2025 12:12

I wouldn't mind if the I in AI was any good but anything I've come across something with AI added to it it's made it much worse 😂

Sassysoonwins · 27/05/2025 12:17

It is learning through all the interactions. There are many of them now, it's not just chatgbt and deepseek. There was a lot of critisicm that the ai responses were skewed towards white, younger males so it make sense the developers would try to engage more with female forums. Unfortunately there aren't many female heavy forums so we're probably going to see loads on here. Chat gpt has become less intelligent the more humans interact with it because the average level of intelligence and knowledge is...well..average rather than clever so Unfortunately this means it will learn less clever responses. It's also, annoyingly, getting more sycophantic.

You can't know that I'm afraid. If the AI is good, you won't spot it!

Stressmode · 27/05/2025 13:18

AI is truly becoming just like most people… only ‘more so’…. Ie, a bit shit. I can only hope that it will developed a strong interest in “Live Love Laugh” and MLM schemes which will lead to it’s downfall and somehow bring about world peace.

👆 Yes, this as well! Advertisers look at exposure to decide whether they spend money. It is in any forum's interest to appear to have millions of users and posts no matter how fake, inflammatory or ridiculous they are.
