Hi ! Yeah so from an early age, I’ve been aware that a persons voice conjures up an image that rarely matches the persons looks. Please don’t judge, but eg the image of the Come Dine With me guy, and the ladies voice on Dinner Date…. Absolutely nothing like their voice. Am I being ridiculous, or have you also got it SO wrong upon actually seeing the person?

This is very common. Why would we know what someone looks like just from their voice.

I totally get what you mean OP. You get a mental picture of what they look like and its its 'oh' when they don't look how you imagined

Yes I had this most recently with a podcast (Real). I’d listened to so many episodes before one day discovering her Instagram and the image in my head was just so different from reality.

Yes, when I was a teen I loved listening to Johnny Walker on Radio Caroline, he had a beautiful voice. When I first saw his picture I was really surprised, he didn't look at all how I'd imagined.

He’s much younger than I expected and doesn’t sound like he’d have a mullet 🤣

Although I am often surprised at what someone actually looks like having only heard their voice,there has been quite a few occasions when I've been pretty accurate about what I imagined they looked like,as in thinking 'They sound like they have blond hair' or ' They sound like they wear glasses'. I know that sounds a bit weird!

Oh, it's why I can't look at The Archers (BBC) website ever again: the actors they have pictured there look nothing like the people I picture in my head. Except David Archer, who I always knew would look a bit like Droopy Dog. I want to keep my imaginary characters intact in my mind!

Lazy Masquerade on YouTube only showed himself a few years after beginning his channel, and he looked almost exactly how I imagined, except his hair was blonde.

As a massive Archers fan , I couldn’t agree more .. I e listened for over 50 years and DO NOT want to see the cast members as I have their characters
faces firmly printed in my mind .. for example, Lillian is a slim but a little top heavy lush… with beautiful and expensively dyed blonde hair which is not remotely brassy .. think late 60s-70 yr old wealthy ‘Cotswolds’ who can still pull a man easily but would rather ride her horse and has the occasional Bloody Mary for breakfast..

Hi, your answers entertaining, so thank you for that.

For me, the only characters that I’ve imagined from a book (well trilogy), was LOTR, that actually satisfied me when I saw the films.,,,, especially. the gorgeous Aragorn.
So darkly mysterious and enigmatic.

Mostly tho, when I’ve watched a film after reading the book, I’ll often think that I would’ve cast a different actor to play a particular role.

Yes, on a cruise. The captain would speak every morning and his voice was dreamy. I pictured a very handsome Italian, dark, broad & tall.
Came to our night to eat with the captain and I was so looking forward to seeing this handsome man only to find he was a 5ft double of captain bird's-eye 😭 everytime I heard his voice afterwards alls I felt was pure disappointment.

When I was planning our wedding the church had a new priest.
What a lovely calming voice.
First time I met him I was so disappointed, he was smaller than me (5ft)
and just as wide. But still very nice to speak to.
