To want my parcel - woman denying accepting it but I have a photo..

I ordered some stuff off sports direct (about £20 worth) and, because I haven’t ordered off there for a couple of years, stupidly got it sent to my old address which was stored on the web site. Yes I know it’s annoying and stupid so I don’t need that lecture.

So once I clocked on what had happened, I went round there to collect it - couple of days later. The woman who bought the house off me completely denies having received it, despite the courier’s photo showing it being accepted at the front door. I can see two sets of children’s feet at the door on the picture. I obviously recognise the doorstep - I lived there for nearly 20 years.

Please note, I did not shout or accuse, I was very polite, I said I was “puzzled” and that there must have been some sort of confusion but she was adamant she hadn’t had it. It was a shoe box sized parcel so not massive to store and not easy to lose either.

Do you clever lot have any idea if there’s anything I can do?

I half expected her to come to the door wearing my gym gear 😆

I think one of the "problems" now is that people order so much stuff that getting a parcel is commonplace now.

Previously you might have known that you weren't expecting anything iyswim.

Also, although it was her address, it wasn't her name so not likely to be for her!

Urg, just seen this was from months ago.

if you bothered to read the OP’s posts you’d see that it has been revived for a very valid reason.

It may be part of a wider investigation. They may be well known wrong’uns - a bit like Al Capone being a murdering gangland boss who ended up getting done for tax evasion. They might be part of a parcel stealing cartel - you never know. This could be the tip of the iceberg that blows the case wide open.

butterpuffed · 25/07/2025 18:24

It would be best to attend court , or it'd be a waste of Police time , they have gone above and beyond for you .

There’s a photo of her looking at the parcel on the doorstep. She could have then handed it back. As I said in my post I’ve done this… taken the parcel, had the photo taken, looked at the parcel and passed it back to the driver.

They don't take photos of people rejecting parcels. They also don't then mark them as delivered

AhBiscuits · 25/07/2025 18:28

I'm amazed that the police are taking it so seriously. My friend's 50k car got nicked the other night and the police just sent an email that said investigating it wouldn't be a good use of their resources.

Ring 101 and ask for some advice on what you can do in the circumstances.

In this case the police know who the thief is!

@kimonok I was more irritated by the way you were saying it, than what you were saying iykwim. It sounded supercillious to me, but if it wasn't meant like that, fair dos. I am going to drop it, I think but just wanted to ponder, talk it out with BF and DP first then move on

I would still be furious that she lied to my face about the parcel. As you have said, the contents weren't particularly exciting so why would this woman make a decision to steal it and then lie about it when you turned up on her doorstep?

I probably wouldn't drop it because the police have obviously spent a fair bit of time investigating this.

Thank goodness - after 350+ posts, it hadn't been suggested to seek advice!

Craftysue · 25/07/2025 18:47

I agree with other people - I wonder if she's got a record for theft.
People keep saying it's only £20 but she knew it wasn't hers to keep.
Even if you don't go ahead, she might think twice if it ever happened again.

Tealpins · 25/07/2025 18:48

I am delighted that the police picked this to follow up, BOOP. So satisfying that someone so petty and mean as to keep and LIE about a parcel from Sports Direct actually gets at least a bit of comeuppance.

I have a slightly similar thing with an insurance claim, having been hit by a very bad driver while I was stationary. He's been lying the whole time. I just can't stand someone getting away with lying. My insurance company, or someone contacted to them, tried to suggest settling. No way will I do that - is just not right that people should get away with lying. I can't stand it.

So, more power to you. It's the bloody principle. And may all her legwear chafe.

WavyRavey · 25/07/2025 19:00

Aw heck yeah take her to court and rake her over the coals the theiving baggage

RatherTardy · 25/07/2025 19:01

If it DOES go to court, @BitOutOfPractice you need to shout "and life [imprisonment] should MEAN life" from the public gallery

anyolddinosaur · 25/07/2025 19:03

If this is a first offence it'll be something like a conditional discharge and/or a fine according to google. If she has form could be worse. Either way maybe it will deter her and educate her family.

Sundaybananas · 25/07/2025 19:11

Cracking update OP. I totally understand that you didn’t expect the police to do anything, but I am so glad they have.

It would be a good thing if more people knew that they might get pulled up for doing something like this. Even if it were only one in a thousand that got investigated.

PrincessFiorimonde · 25/07/2025 19:14

I've only just stumbled on this thread.
OP, I hope things work out to your satisfaction.
Meantime, have a nice evening in the pub with your DP.

AlertCat · 25/07/2025 19:16

Slow to this, but wanted to share my own experience of (less) CFery. Similar to the OP I didn’t update my address in Shopify or one of those, and my Christmas present parcel went to the old address. (I had left a forwarding address and a phone number, but the new owner has never used either.) It was more expensive than I could replace so I hotfooted it round there early doors and caught her on the way to the (private) school run. Initially she started to deny having it, then she said she didn’t have time to fetch it, then she brought it out. She’d opened it but thankfully everything was in it, so I got my stuff back, but such CRery- these were quite expensive treat items for me, and she is obviously wealthy enough to have bought them as a staple.

Speaking of pearls of wisdom, you do know that by clicking on the "see all" at the bottom of any of the OP's posts you are able to see all her posts and not have to be bothered with all the others, so that you know what she has written on more recent updates?

Saves a lot of time, that one.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/05/2025 16:34

Yes I thought about that. I don’t think she had any shame though. I mean it was obvious I knew she was lying.

I once had my phone nicked at a festival. Rang it, and a girl answered. I said "What are you doing with my phone?" She said "It's not your phone" and I was so flabbergasted, I just said "Oh, OK then, sorry" and hung up and left it at that 😳

I've never been very assertive.

A glitter bomb might be the way forward OP.

I have an update.

The police have been in touch asking me to go to the station to make a statement and if I am prepared to be a witness in court.

Oh lord this has spiralled. I’m horrified!

Really? 🙄
