It can’t be as hard as this to buy a wedding dress

I am getting married this time next year. I thought a whole year would be loads of time to choose a dress but apparently not. I want to lose a bit of weight before the wedding not too much but I have put on a bit of weight since having a baby ( who is now a toddler).

The wedding dress shop I spoke to said I need to order a dress about a year in advance because it takes time to order the dress in. They will order a standard dress size then I need to find my own seamstress to take the drsss up and that will take weeks.

Is this normal? It must be easier than this. I am going to end up with the wrong size. I looked at high street wedding dresses but you need to order them online.

Can you go into a shop and try on a wedding dress and take it home without any drama?

I have a really big bust so lots of things don’t fit me well.

it’s all such a massive con. They’ll still take you on at nine or six months. But I would definitely advise finding a dress shop that offers alterations - plenty do.

As an alternative, it really is worth considering the following- I bought mine on Still White for £600, secondhand.
I used bridal shops to arrange appointments and find and try on dresses, to work out what size I was in certain brands and in that process found exactly the dress I wanted and then found it for £1600 less secondhand

I really struggled with this too. Wed2be is good and there are also shops that you just buy there and then. I ended up getting mine from a shop where I chose it a year in advance but they didn't measure me and order it until 4 months before when I had lost some weight. I spent £100 changing the sleeves but was a perfect fit apart from that

I second wed2be if you have one near you Or would be worth travelling to one! So helpful and you can take home same day. My dress was a 14 and I had it altered down to a 10 6 week before the wedding
