Dr Seuss for me. Yes the stories are sometimes a bit weird and repetitive but I love the rhyming rhythm. Don’t mind Julia Donaldson but some books are definitely better than others.

What are your favourites?

Slinky Malinky! They're pre teens now, and will still ask me to read it occasionally.

Claude books. Just the right level of silly.

Edenmum2 · 25/05/2025 10:26

Poo in the zoo is a current favourite for my 3 year old

Hairy MacLairy from Donaldsons Dairy (or any other Lynley Dodd book in that style)
More recently I’ve enjoyed reading The Land of Roar which has huge opportunities for different voices.

Burglar Bill and Peepo when little
Julia Donaldson big hit as she got older - the rhythm makes the story easy to follow (Tiddler was a favourite)
Then DH started to read longer stories like Narnia, Harry Potter
DD couldn't handle too much suspense or danger though, so stories had to be quite tame

DH has tried and failed to read the Selfish Giant to all 3 of his children without crying!

Fullofthejoysofspring · 26/05/2025 08:58

Five Minutes Peace or any of the Large family stories. I’m convinced they were written for parents.
