I’m going to turkey, Antalya may half term, aka in the next few days and despite being a scorcher this week, the weather next week looks pretty dismal. I’m so upset. The holiday wasn’t cheap, we booked it for the pool and beach and no it looks like for 4 days it’s going to be unusable.

is this something TI would cover if we cancelled?

can I call and change the booking? Obviously I’d have to pay more, but I think looking at the weather it looks so awful, it’s probably better than pissing away the £3k because we can’t use the facilities.

or should I just go and hope the weather changes?

wwyd

we booked with TUI

You should definitely still go. It’s very unlikely to pour down all day, every day, so you will still have fun!
Anywhere in Europe is a bit of a gamble in May tbh. Guaranteed hot weather would be late June - early Sept, although prices then would also be higher to reflect this.

We’re about 30 mins from Alanya so we’d have to take a bus, probably not taxi or we’d be lugging around car seats, but I did have a google and saw the cable cars that looks cute and then really funky looking caves. My kids are pre school age so I think they’d like that sort of stuff x

The little dolmus buses are fab for getting around op. And cheap too. Are you in the Avsallar area? I stayed there once and the buses were really frequent from there. I am sure you will have a lovely time!

So you’re telling me if you spent £3k on a sun and sea holiday that you’d be like la lala it will still be great, when it objectively won’t due to the weather.

only the indoor pool is heated so all the facilities will be unusable

Yep! That's exactly what I'm telling you! Lighten up, and plan on enjoying yourself regardless of the weather. Surely just being away from home and work, etc., with your partner, will be enjoyable, won't it? Look forward to some love and cuddles, and RELAX!!

Yes that’s where we are and that’s really reassuring the buses are frequent!

Really surprised by these replies - obviously a beach and pool holiday will be ruined by bad weather and the OP has a right to be disappointed. 🤷‍♀️

I agree. I think in many cases, people who can't or don't want to go abroad, are putting the boot in to make themselves feel superior.

Imagine a different scenario. The op paying for say a skiing holiday but there is no snow, when ordinarily there would be. I think people might maybe be more understanding. Mumsnet brings out the worst in people sometimes

Yeah it’s weird, because obviously you try and make the most of it and hope the weather changes it’s that or sell it and lose probably 50%.

I dunno I feel like £3k is a fair chunk of change for a week away, yeah I want my holiday to be lovely. I researched and researched, read reviews etc, picked one my kids would love and now… well it’s going to be a bit rubbish, or no where near as good as it could be, esp when you see last weeks weather was perfect.

i don’t know if it’s the same mentality as those who tell people on average salaries feeling the pinch on CoL to ‘get a grip’ or if it’s a jealously thing, but people love to put the boot in. Even that comment about my thinking Dubai would be too hot, and it would, I’ve been in June before and it was 40 degrees. That’s too hot for my young children. Weird

Chin up, you will have a good time

I was out there one late October and whilst it chucked it down one day, still absolutely boiling - high humidity - so I jumped in the pool and swam away

I mean in the pool you are wet anyway :)

Even with cloud cover, you will still tan, it will still be hot ( high humidity )

Muchtoomuchtodo · 26/05/2025 08:17

@XelaM i think it was because op was catastrophising - saying that whole holiday was going to be ruined when the forecasts that the rest of us were looking at were nowhere near as bad as she was saying more than a week away from her trip.

Ginmonkeyagain · 26/05/2025 09:36

Exactly that. Also we can't control the weather so it seems a bit silly to base your entire holiday around getting a certain type of weather. Always have a bit of a plan for bad weather.

so people who go on ski holidays have to have a plan for there not being snow?

most ‘summer’ pool and beach holidays are contingent on decent weather- what exactly are you meant to plan for in these seasonal holidays.

but plus side looks like the weather is getting better. BBC shows only one day in Antalya as rain, truthfully I’d prefer it a bit hotter but whatever. And met office has good weather on all days.

the reason I was so upset before was that both those sites were showing 4/5 days of storm and rain, out of a week holiday

The weather forecast isn’t always accurate. Sometimes they take it from the airport which could be a couple of hours away.
In my experience, it is always hotter/sunnier than forecasts say.

Ginmonkeyagain · 26/05/2025 10:27

It's rain. You won't melt.

Ginmonkeyagain · 26/05/2025 10:29

The ski thing is interesting. I think with climate change yes people do have to accept the greater risk there may not be the snow they want or need for a skiing holiday or be more careful about booking at either side of the season.

Wowzel · 26/05/2025 10:29

I'd go, hire a car and go to all the places I wanted to go to last summer but it was way too hot!

Bumblebeestiltskin · 26/05/2025 10:36

Why, if your kids are pre-school age, did you book the half term week? Much more expensive and there'll be millions of kids everywhere. You could have booked for June when it would be less chance of rain and cheaper. Oh wait, unless you're teachers, in which case ignore me 😂

I'm surprised you couldn't change things with TUI - I've changed dates with them a couple of times before, for a fee.

XelaM · 26/05/2025 10:54

Only Thursday now showing as bad weather, so fingers crossed OP 🤞🏻

@Facingfearshow was the weather in the end?

It's cos the OP was trying to change a few days before departure. Changing so close to departure date means 90 or 100% fee as it's classed as a new booking

@Facingfearshow was the weather in the end?

It was a mixed bag, we definitely got extremely unlucky. Staff at the hotel even commented that is was very unseasonable weather. It was a bit overcast some days which meant the pools were on the chilly side, but the last few days were hot and then the pools were quite nice! Sea was a lovely temp though

there was an indoor pool, although on the day of rain they forgot to turn the heating on, so it wasn’t pleasant. Will complain about that.
