To move my summer hols?

I’m going to turkey, Antalya may half term, aka in the next few days and despite being a scorcher this week, the weather next week looks pretty dismal. I’m so upset. The holiday wasn’t cheap, we booked it for the pool and beach and no it looks like for 4 days it’s going to be unusable.

is this something TI would cover if we cancelled?

can I call and change the booking? Obviously I’d have to pay more, but I think looking at the weather it looks so awful, it’s probably better than pissing away the £3k because we can’t use the facilities.

or should I just go and hope the weather changes?

wwyd

we booked with TUI

The pool will be freezing anyway in May unless heated. The sea will be warmer and if it’s pissing down you’ll be wet anyway so might as well have a dip.

DarkForces · 25/05/2025 10:13

I get it. I'm so pissed off after having watched the glorious sunshine out my office window and working full time, winning the lottery of getting May half term off and booking a holiday by the sea the weather has now turned 48 hours before we head off. 😡

Ginmonkeyagain · 25/05/2025 10:14

It might be warm and dry on average but weather is never guaranteed, you can't just order up the weather you want.

We were in the South of France last year in July - generally 30 degrees and lots of sunshine. We had arranged to go to an outdoor festival one day and it poured and poured with rain all day and night. It wasn't ideal but it was still warm and there was a certain humour and camradarie as locals and tourists alike tried to improvise all sorts of rain shelters to continue the fun outside (the Southern French are not as prepared for summer events to be disrupted by rain as the British it seems!)

I don’t think it will be ‘freezing’ in 28 degree weather, we’ve been before and it was quite pleasant. Sea will be warmer but probably not safe in thunderstorms

This is exactly it

all my bonus spent. And it’s gonna piss it down

It will be freezing. We go every year. The pools don’t heat up for ages, even in 28 degrees. I am a wuss but can’t even get until end of June. I hate freezing water.

zenas · 25/05/2025 10:26

It must be very disappointing, but you either forget about it and stay home, or join the other 300 passengers on the plane and make the most of it. I have no doubt that it will NOT be as bad as you think.

And I'm sorry to say, but anyone going to Turkey to support the economy of that megalomaniac Erdogan doesn't get any brownie points from me. Same as those going to the US or Dubai or other places of dubious reputation. Stick to Europe, it's not perfect but it is our continent at least, with half decent governments for the most part.

I’m the same and I have a medical condition that means I feel the cold quite badly and can’t warm up but we went first week of June in 2023 and it was fine, weather was high 20s

I’ve just looked and it’s saying scorching sun every day next week!

Well I’d go to all three destinations but in this specific instance, we went turkey due to relative proximity and weather v Europe at this time of year.

we do also prefer to go to Muslim countries

I don’t know where you’re looking but the two forecasts I have looked at say between 28° and 21° next week - that’s hot/warm enough to have a great time. Give your head a wobble and get in and enjoy it.

zenas · 25/05/2025 10:45

I didn't know that the US was a muslim country. Anyway, it's nothing to do with the religious base, it's the Governments and how they treat women and immigrant workers etc. that's the issue for me.

Look, I just mentioned this in passing as a comment. I really don't want to have a political debate. I said initially that I believed the weather would not be as bad as you think, and I really hope that' the case, and I'm sure it will be. Enjoy the break, be positive and enjoy a few baklavas!

BallerinaRadio · 25/05/2025 10:46

Another one that's just checked and it's just showing sunshine and high 20's/low 30's.

I'm sure you'll be fine.

It’s obviously not but I’d still go there.

hopefully the weather turns it round fingers crossed 🤞

24 can feel bloody glorious. Your choices are either stay at home, where it will definitely be colder and probably raining, and lose the money, or go, suck it up, get taxis to do some sightseeing if it’s genuinely too bad for the pool (unlikely), enjoy the food and a change of scenery. Pack a load of books.

I get it feels disappointing but honestly, get a grip or you’ll be the one ruining it for your family, not the weather.

What ones are you looking at?

bbc, the one that comes up on the weather app, google, and accu weather don’t look great

You are being utterly ridiculous

of course you can’t cancel because of forecast..

it will still be hot enough for you compared to here

Iloveasunnyday · 25/05/2025 10:57

I don't think that is something that they would do. Image the chaos if everyone did it.

Stick it in Google. I’ve gone for Side / Alanya as you’ve not said where you’re going exactly but the forecasts look pretty good to me. The one that says rain in Thursday only shows a 50% chance of precipitation in the afternoon. (Pictures to follow once approved)

I just got back from 2 weeks in Side earlier this week.

The weather was never the same on the day as the forecast. There were forecast storms and rain a few days of our stay, but they never materialised. Even if they do, they will be like tropical storms and won't last all day. Just a flash downpour.

The pools were lovely and warm (to counter the pp who said they would be freezing). 27° in the early morning up to 29+° in the mid- afternoon.
The sea was also nice and warm.

24° days felt really warm if out of any wind. The one day it crept to 30° felt far too hot for me.

dnadiscoveryquery · 25/05/2025 11:06

Even on the days that have the highest chance of some rain (50%) chance it’s only a couple/few hours, and it’s still going to be warm. Their rain is nothing like the grey, drab British rain.

It was the weekend too, we get there Wednesday so I was just super disheartened to see Thursday as drab, then Saturday Sunday as drab too, feels like we’ve missed so much of the week!

but hopefully as people say it’s a few hours maybe and not as miserable as rain here.

we dented Egypt but the safety put me off, but the weather now looks marvellous

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 25/05/2025 11:24

I get it op. The rain is different over there though and often it will just be a quick shower. Also the percentage shown is not the percentage chance of rain but the percentage of the area that will experience rain. Much of the rain happens over mountains so in resort you may not even see any at all.

Bring trainers and a waterproof jacket just in case as maybe you could catch a taxi to a busier area for the day if it rains. Side and Alanya are both lovely. Alanya has great cable cars leading to a castle which could be an option maybe

Echobelly · 25/05/2025 11:24

I think you'll have to find other things to do if the weather isn't great - there's no shortage of interesting stuff to see in Turkey.

We had a weekend away in Spain with a big group of friends this month at a villa and on the way there I felt really down as the latest local forecast looked awful and I'm not going to get a sun holiday this year (summer holiday is Scotland!) But actually it was quite a bit better than forecast and we even got to sit around the pool on the last day (but only DH was brave/dumb enough to go in as the water was pretty cold)

We’re about 30 mins from Alanya so we’d have to take a bus, probably not taxi or we’d be lugging around car seats, but I did have a google and saw the cable cars that looks cute and then really funky looking caves. My kids are pre school age so I think they’d like that sort of stuff x
