Basically we booked a UK hotel room some weeks back for a stay in June via booking.com.

just looked at booking again before out of interest/excitement as it’s nicer hotel and much more than we wld normally spend but it’s a for a celebration , and seen it was about a quarter cheaper! So I booked it at new price and cancelled more expensive booking. (We always have to make cancellable bookings)

is it normal for hotels to do this and I’m just naive about it? im worried I’ve fucked up but the new stay looks exactly the same as old one, same level of room and still cancellable?

(ps please no spag corrections as there is reason I’m like this atm)
thanks for any advice?

They go up and down like yo-yos based on availability and demand.

In case it helps for background it’s a graduation week and a city centre so we booked as soon as we knew exact date as worried there would be a shortage

Yeah, this is quite normal. I quite often cancel and rebook like this.

xanthomelana · 22/05/2025 18:30

Yes it’s normal. Most hotels use dynamic pricing systems which fluctuate depending on demand.

If you have to make cancellable bookings anyway, you may as well make the most of it!

I’m a serial cancel and rebooker! I almost always pay more for cancelable rates for this exact reason.

Oh quick replies and reassuring thank you! It’s a v nice hotel so to get it so much cheaper is brilliant for us. So pleased
